Can't boot into Windows 8 after updating

SenpaiSilver

Hi,

Yesterday night my girlfriend shutdown her computer like any normal person would do it with by clicking shutdown.
This afternoon she tried to boot it, and I would not boot the login screen.

She gets the new blue page saying an error occured and asks her to choose an option.
This is the same page as the one attached in this thread.

I know that the data is not lost since I had the same problem one day when I updated with Windows Update, but since I spent 4 hours on it I don't remember what I did.

How could I undo the update ?

Is there anything I can do ?

I already asked to do a "chkdsk /R /X" on the main drive.

Thanks.

The first button has "Troubleshooting" written on it and the second is "Shutdown".

The screenshot is not from her PC, it's just to show what kind of screen she is getting when she boots.

A fresh reinstall may help

I'd really prefer not to and try everything that is possible, there is no way to do backups since I'm currently away and she can't run a linux live CD.

The system is not bluescreening, it just won't boot because of a faulty update.

Go into Troubleshooting -> Advanced options -> System Restore (or whatever it is in French).

You could also try going to safe mode to uninstall the update.

Getting into safe mode with Windows 8 is a challenge, is it done with SHIFT+F8 before booting ?

Is there no other way to trigger it ?

You can do Shift+Restart too.

Ah, you can't. You could follow my suggestion from my previous reply though, if you're on that blue screen: Go into Troubleshooting -> Advanced options -> System Restore (or whatever it is in French).
