In your guy's opinion:

 

1) What do you think the government should do to enact net neutrality?

 

2) What can the public do to make a change within the government, and can do it now?

1) As they said above, remove almost all of the protections current ISPs have. Enact Anti-trust suits, etc..

 

2) Be intelligent voters. If you wait till there are only 4-2 people left in the presidential run before you start looking up who is who, you are doing it wrong. Also, don't vote on someone just because they are part of your party. Who do you want to be a Judge, someone who is part of a different political party, but has had a long, successful career in law and has done many good deeds (charity, etc.), or someone who is part of your party but has done some... questionable acts.

I'm tired of having to pick between bad and worse. Make intelligent votes early instead of later, and vote on who would do the job best; not always someone who is biased towards your political party.

 

Also, give your sh*tty ISPs hell, and switch (if possible, often in down-town areas) to smaller/newer ISPs. Keep up-to-date with Net-Neutrality. Don't be one of those people who just throws a few complaints against SOPA after your favorite YouTuber made a video against it.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Take comcast, TWC, AT&T, and Verizon to court, and force each of them to sell off 75% of their holdings to 3 separate business entities (3 smaller isp's for every large one)

 

Enact Net Neutrality and watch the golden age of the internet begin.

 

Outlaw "non competition" contracts and agreements

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

I like the origional idea of the NBN(in Australia), a goverment owned high speed network that is wholesaled to ISP. Meaning everone has access to a highspeed internet access. So everone is at a even playing field interms of network accesss. But then politics came into play, yay <_<

But getting back on topic. The idea of being able to legislate it is stupid, just ask people in Australia (again), we use DNS and VPN into the states to use services like netflix. And anyone can do that and ISP's can't stop it. So if they did legslate is, it would drive more people to use these types of services.

Take any ISP who throttles speeds and sue them for false advertising. The fast-lanes and slow-lanes thing warrants a class-action lawsuit for discrimination. Seriously, the things that these bastard companies are getting away with are getting into FTC territory. AT&T was broken up over far, far less than what they are doing. Get someone to oust wheeler and bring in someone who isn't in the pockets of the few.

 

and our judicial system needs an overhaul. I'm talking get rid of the entire thing and start over again with a new system, because it's just so corrupt. The outcome of every single damn one of these net neutrality lawsuits ends based on the highest bidder. If you want to know just how corrupt it is in the States, check out the Rolling Stone article on the terrible things that Chase did in the subprime mortgage and how the U.S. court system was completely ineffective in dealing with that. The whole thing is just a sham.

Last of all, all lobbying by major companies should be made illegal. The United States has bolstered its overgrown ego on the grandiose claim that it's the land of Democracy and Freehdums, when the people in control are paid by major corporations to pass laws that suit their agenda. The people are supposed to be in charge, not Congress. But the people have no power. All the candidates are chosen beforehand based on who has the most money, and all the recent presidents have either been morons, liars or turncoats, and every single one of them has been floppier than a pancake while in office.

 

America is not a democracy anymore, it stopped being a democracy with Nixon, and personally, I think that it will never go back to being one ever again.

A prime example of how people muddy the waters.

 

"Treat all data equally" is the defining principle of net neutrality, yet the term often morphs into discussions of bandwidth and data volume pricing.

 

Not the same things.  Three distinct, if also related issues.

 

If you want to end data discrimination then pass a law making data discrimination a civil offense, with a suitable monetary penalty per offense.  Even better add a qui tam provision to the law, so that people on the inside have incentive to rat out businesses that are dirty.

 

It should not matter the content of my packets, be they PtP or Netflix.  Catch an ISP charging in a discriminatory manner based upon the content then they should pay.

 

Yes, there are other issues to resolve, but if you are truly serious about addressing the OP's questons then everything needs to be kept very specific and very focused, otherwise you will never accomplish anything.

These all sound great except for one large reason. THEY ONLY WANT MONEY! If the companies bribe and barter paying the government more money then they would with net neutrality then by no means are they going to do it. The best things you could actually do is become a part of the government and keep trying to pass a law for net neutrality. If it was a public vote it would win by miles.

Just keeping this here as a Slogans will get you nothing.

 

There are people in government who really don't give a rat's behind what you get or don't get, they just want to get control.

 

Then there are people in business who want nothing more than to become a public utility - where their profits are guaranteed and you take whatever the government (see above) tells them they have to provide (the same people who, upon retirement from government 'service' then goes to work for said telecomm/internet companies.)

 

You are being gamed by hollow slogans and lack of specifics.
