So being that the pentium g3258 was and still is a BEAST for a dual core processor at only $70 it's cores will eventually ware out over time and it will be just another dual core in the dust.. But my question is since it used the new haswell architecture will intel release another one for 2015 with maybe more cache and with the architecture? or was it just a "20 Year anniversary" thing? I was thinking about building a little g3258 build to mess around with but then this came into my head and if it's true i wanna know if i should wait for the newer refresh to come out?

From what ive been seeing the new cpu's that are coming this year are just more power efficient with better onboard graphics. Id just go with a 4690k/4790k if you want to build now or even wait a year or so and go with Skylake when it comes out sometime in 2016.

Probably won't be another unlocked one, but you never know.

Honestly i think they should since most people new to gaming can grab it and easily upgrade in the future..

Even if they released a G4258, it wouldn't matter as it would only be marginally faster (<5%).

Maybe considering how successful this was we'll see an unlocked i3... but that's just speculation.

I can't see that happening. An unlocked i3 would cut into the low end i5's sales. So the only way I could see that happening is if Intel lost the very low end i5's and just made them unlocked i3's instead (which would be a higher yield, thus saving them money).

When it hangs in with quad core solutions in gaming scenarios, that makes it very good. Its not a good all round CPU if you don't just game, but overclocked for 70? The thing isn't going to hold back a lot of GPUs in a lot of todays games.

People buy these CPUs specifically to overclock them. Intel didn't release it for average joes, they knew it would be targeted towards budget gamers and thats who buys these and thats who knows how to use them in builds that get the most out of them.

thats fair enough however if you are on a $70 budget why is AMD not an option

Because a G3258 has MUCH better single/dual threaded performance than an 860k. So an 860k vs. G3258 comes down to what games will be played and when an upgrade can be made.

AMD cpu's cores barely match with intel's look at the Athlon x4 vs g3258 intel still comes out a winner even at a dual core

If they don't overclock; they would be buying G3250, G3450...etc.

Anyone who has a sister hates the fact that his sister isn't Kasugano Sora.
Anyone who does not have a sister hates the fact that Kasugano Sora isn't his sister.
I'm not insulting anyone; I'm just being condescending. There is a difference, you see...

It's a beast, it's overclocking potential is phenomenal.

Yes it's only dual core, but for $70 damnnn... one hell of a CPU.

It also acts as a perfect placeholder on LGA1150 until you have the money for an i5/i7.

Since I live in Sweden, I don't know the American prices but can't you get an I5 for like 100 dollars or something?
