Need a cheap Nvidia GPU for second screen

Ok then its not your CPU. Um I still don't understand why you are losing that much performance.

 

This is honestly the extent of my knowledge gone. Do you have another monitor you can borrow and try with it? I don't think this specific monitor could lead to this problem but possibly.

i tried my brothers Samsung 1080p monitor and it did the same thing , with the same performance hit so it isnt do to with the RES on the other screen

How exactly are you using it? Extended Desktop? Nvidia Surround? As a Normal second display? 

And what driver version are you using? Make sure that is up to date.

Normal second display , and i have newest drivers 347.?? , but i noticed the FPS issue when i got my 970 in october , but i only just found out it was the second screen ...

Yep those drivers are up to date. Could you maybe try your 970 in another system like your brothers? See if you get the same performance issues?

way ahead of you , we swapped 970's earlier today ( we have the same GPU ) and i still have the same problem , it has to be the screen ... :/

Welp I have no idea. There should be no way that adding an extra monitor should have that kind of performance hit.

Yea we tried that too , i think it is either a weird issue with the 970 as a card or the screen i am using 

 

so do you think a gt610 will be enough for the second screen ?

I would actually recommend the cheapest AMD card you can find, so that the nvidia driver isn't being forced to handle 2 separate cards for two different monitors. I'm not saying there will be an issue, but the same driver sometimes doesn't like different cards doing different things at the same time.

Ya I'm sure a GT610 would be fine for the second screen but I still don't think that is the solution to the problem.

hmm, I suppose. Physx wouldn't work. guess a gt 610 would be fine.

well if i have the second screen running off another GPU that should ( in theory ) fix the problem 

 

i can get a gt610 for £18 so its worth a shot :)

Even my 4.8 GHz OC'ed FX-8320 slightly bottlenecks my GTX 970, averaging around 85% GPU usage during BF4. Face it man, there's a bottleneck.

 

Interesting, my FX 8370 (Stock speeds)  and GTX 970 dont seem to bottleneck.

 

GPU usage 92% to 98% and CPU usage 60%
