Nvidia GTX 970 Reference Card?

Go to solution Solved by Imakuni,

Oh i see, so i should buy the non-reference. But which brand is the best? I was about to buy the Asus Strix one.

Go out, and find prices for these 3 models:

  1. MSI Gaming 4g
  2. Gigabyte Windforce OC (it's not the g1)
  3. Asus Strix

Simply put, get the cheapest you can find. If it's only a 5$ difference between the cheapest and the next one, I'd get them in the mentioned order.

EVGA didn't release a reference model for the GTX 970, only the ACX 2.0 models. Best Buy sells the reference model by Nvidia. Does Nvidia model is better then the non-reference ones? Or is it worst?

That's not a "reference" model made by Nvidia. It's a completely custom pcb and cooler, made to match what an actual reference would look like.

Also, it's worse than non-reference designs. Cooling is not as great.

Well non-reference cards (such as EVGA or ASUS) have more advanced coolers which are better at handling overclocking and heat than reference cards. NVIDIA Reference 970s look really good in my opinion.

All the parts are here, just need to get customized cords to connect the motherboard to the front panel.

non reference tend to have better coolers. (Although they exhaust the hot air out into the case, instead of out the back of the card).

Also non reference cards sometimes have better motherboards/componens. Which can be very good for overclocking/longevity.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

I would go ASUS Strix or MSI. I have EVGA ACX 2.0 one and it has a bit of coil whine because they didn't do the coolers very well this time around.

I still don't really understand the "open coolers blow hot air into your case" comment that always comes up in these threads. I mean they do, but that's literally why we have case fans?

I dunno. Maybe I could have sustained a more aggressive overclock on my old 580s or afforded a less obnoxious fan curve if they were closed, but on 970s it seems a bit moot -- especially when OP only seems to be talking about using one.

Not really a huge fan of the argument either, with 1 or 2 cars a aftermarket card is generally the best solution with higher grade components and better cooling as long as you have some airflow.

Heck I have had 2 290X on air after market coolers in an Corsair Obsidian 800D, that thing only has a single 140mm intake fan, it is so far I turned my rear 140mm exhaust fan around to intake because the fans on my rad where pulling a vacuum in the case and they did just fine.

OF course hot air might reduce the lifespan of other components like the MB and storage, but the difference I say is to marginal to be concerned about.

IF you really want a 970 with a titan style cooler here you go: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-205-OK

I've linked ref cards as well. It's just that that one has the 'titan' cooler.

Everything that isn't SSC, FTW/+ Classfied and K|NGP|N is a ref card.

If what you are asking about is reference "PCB" to use with a waterblock EVGA does have:

Else, go with a non-reference cooler ones like all the others above me advised.

Yay, mais hue hues no fórum!

Anyway, given BR prices, the Gigabyte Windforce OC is your best bet. The prices for other brands just don't make sense! You can find it on Kabum, as well as Guerra Digital for cheaper. See which one gets the lower shipping price.

Also, are you accepting comments on the build? There are quite a few things I'd change...

BestBuy has them I have one it is a fantastic card I have a 200Mhz core clock on mine running at 70C under load.

It is a good card. But other models are not just "good", they are GREAT.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but that's the truth.

I like the looks and if want a blower cooler it is the best blower cooler on the market and as you see in the case I need a blower cooler so the reference is the best in terms of blower coolers.
