Is buying refillable ink cartridges and ink for printers a good idea?

Luke

So i can buy two full sets of ink cartridges for $16 USD (each black cartridge being 25ML) here:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/8-PK-INK-FOR-BROTHER-LC-103XL-FITS-MFC-J470DW-MFC-J475DW-LC103-LC101-XL-J4410DW-/251715638208?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3a9b6bd3c0

Or i can buy a set of empty but refillable cartridges and 200ML ink bottles for $43.76 here:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/EMPTY-REFILLABLE-INK-CARTRIDGES-BROTHER-LC-103-LC103-MFC-J285DW-MFC-J475DW-/221387033020?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item338bb209bc

Not sure which i should buy. The refillable ones seems like better value but i'm not sure if there are downsides. Anyone ever bought them?

Usually the cheaper inks do not have the same quantity of pigments.  Thus they tend to fade quicker.  Other than that you probably won't see a difference.  I use generic inks on my brother and on my cannon before it died.  Never had an issue with day to day stuff.

can u not just refill regular ones like your first link?

I think there is a way but you need a special tool or something. I could be wrong but i will look into it thanks for reminding me.

I used refillable inks on my old canon inkjet and can tell you that they work fine. Nothing spectacular or anything but really you don't expect super amazing quality from a consumer grade printer anyway.
