HELP! Lag and other problems...

Hey,

I've had this problem for a while now and I can't find a proper solution to it so i thought I'd ask you guys for help.

1. LAG

I enjoy playing FPS games and nothing is pissing me of more than lag. My internet is not the best but it's also not horrible: 10mbit/s download. The problem is that I have to use a VPN in order to connect to any servers (too complicated to explain now why). Idk if this influences my ping that much but I don't think that this is the main problem because I am getting about 50-80 m/s in most games which is alright for me. But I also really like CS:GO and I ALWAYS get 100+m/s and it's almost impossible to win a firefight because it's already really glitchy and laggy. I hoped you could maybe tell me the solution or tell me where i can find a solution to this problem because i couldn't find anything on the internet.

2.

A problem which gets on my nerves even more because it influences every game is that my brother enjoys watching YouTube videos. Like, he enjoys them so much that he doesnt do anything else all day long. Since we live in the same house my ping always goes up to 250-600 m/s which makes every game unplayable. Since I am only 16 i can't afford to buy another router + pay for another provider. I wanted to know if there is any way I can still play my games with an acceptable ping while he is watching YouTube vids? I cant even express how aweful it is to not be able to play when you have time but only when your brother is not at home which is not that often.

I really hope that you can help me,

simx

Is your vpn server in the same country as you? If say your in the north of the US and the vpn is in europe but you still connect to us games then you will get a high ping that way.

From what I can see it is a problem with people connecting via vpn's. Most people that connect through a vpn get abnormally high ping only in CS:GO

well, whats ur frame rate in game? might seem like a dumb question but back when i gamed on a laptop and didnt know what frame rates were i just thought the games were laggy due to internet or due to the game being developed for consoles and modded for pc(i know.. i was dumb)

But if its not that, u can download something like net limiter and see whats using ur internet, see if there anything on ur pc such as malware or a bitfarming virus thingy hogging the internet. Also ur internet is quite slow for gaming, if theres more then one person on the wifi at that speed then youll have lag quite a bit, also is ur router close to the pc or are u decently far? and did u try different Ethernets?

Lots of questions but from my rage of lag in games ive found lots of this to actually be a issue in the past, besides the bit farming part but i always hear storys....

VPNs introduce lag. It's possible that you can get banned using one as well. I'd stop using it.

Even the worlds best and most expensive VPN is going to introduce more latency, there is no way around it. You are redirecting your traffic to take a longer route.

Setting up QOS in your router will allow you to put youtube on the backburner and give your gaming priority.

It actually is my house... I haven't informed me about that topic yet but if I bought another router I would have to pay for another provider, am I right? And if I bought another router and would not have to pay for another provider would my internet not be affected at all by my brother watching yt videos?

You are probably right but as I said I have to use a VPN.

To your suggestion: first of all idk how to do that and also I can't access my router

It depends on your router if it is possible or not, and how difficult it is. For most routers it is an extremely obvious point and click affair. If you don't have access to your router then it is not possible to do.

Either get access to your router, or deal with your connection. Adding a new router after your existing router will not help any, and getting a second provider is likely not worth the money.

the modem is the company u buy internet from but usually u can call and check was modems u can buy yourself. router is purely yourself, if u have a modem+router combo from the company ask them for a modem only or ask them to remove the router part and get your own. you should have full access to your router
