Hey,

I'm deciding between the Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce and the ASUS GTX 970 STRIX. This is because I was talking with my about what would be better with the H440 and my build as the STRIX is a bit shorter meaning I wouldn't have to sacrifice a drive cage.

So here's what I'd have to take into consideration...

  • Gigabyte has a 0.07 higher Ghz which I don't think is bad to sacrifice
  • The STRIX is 20 USD cheaper which could be used on something to upgrade or just save
  • Gigabyte is way longer meaning I would have to sacrifice a HDD slot or two..
  • STRIX has 2 fans, Gigabyte has 3, though both are meant to be good with cooling

Would I be better off getting a more expensive GPU like the Windforce or get a STRIX... I am planning on upgrading in the future once I can afford it.

Thanks!

Whichever is cheapest, so Strix wins. EVGA ACX 2.0 is also pretty good and short.

- Out of the box OC is useless, you should do manual OC anyway

- Nothing to say about that

- It uses that length for a cooler that poos on the strix cooler

- Gigabyte >>>>>> Strix for cooling

The 970 G1 Gaming supposedly oc's like a beast. If you don't care about that, go with whatever fits your case and is the cheapest.

@ZetZet and @1Scotty1, why would the EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 thingy be better? Better cooling and overclock?

The core clock is a little higher, and it is just my personal preference :) there is the FTW Edition, but paying 25€ more for 25Hz is imho not wort it

Wait a second. Are you talking about the Gi gaming, or the regular Windforce OC? Gigabyte made us the favor of using a name that works for both products....

Anyway, if it IS the Windforce Oc you are talking about, then get the Strix. 20$ is just way too much. If not, check the prices for it, and if it is a mere 5$ difference or less, get that one instead. Also, check prices for the MSI Gaming 4G: 5$ or less, guess that instead as well.

@1Scotty1, I think I may end up going with the Strix, I'll look into it more.

@Imakuni, it just says windforce... here's a link: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970g1gaming4gd

Sure, go for the Strix, it is a good choice :)

Nope, you are wrong. Take a look at the image. It clearly says "G1 Gaming" on the box. It's also expensive. THIS is the actual Windforce OC.

As you can see, it's a much cheaper card.

Oh, okay, thanks! Looks like they are both the same price now...

Get what you like aesthetically

Aesthetically, I think I like the STRIX... It also fits well so if I were to expand later on, I wouldn't need to sacrifice yet another drive...

@1Scotty1, if I were to get the STRIX, it only has 1 display port while the WINDFORCE has 3 display ports... Is that worth sacrificing to get the STRIX? Would I use HDMI ports or display ports... Is having 3 better?

Do you use a multi-monitor setup? If not it doesn't make a difference. If you use one monitor you just pick what you like, if you have a multi-monitor setup you have to use different portswhich is not a big deal although people prefer display port.

It depends if you use Display ports and multimonitor setup. Personally, I use one 1080p 40" LCD TV as a monitor and that does not have a Display port, so I use HDMI and works well :)

Awesome, I was hoping to use a 1080p 27" screen and then a poop screen to the side for skype or something that doesn't need good quality.

I may be using a multi-monitor setup like I said just above in this post ^^^. I'll look into it.

If you take a look at both pictures, they both have windforce written on them... The one that is 20 USD more has SSC or something on it and is superclocked apparently...

@M_Shane, how about DVI-D and DVI-I Dual-Link slots... Are they any use?

If you want to know for all times about hdmi dvi-d and dual link and hdmi and display port 1.3a and so on check >>THIS<< out

You can plug one display in via DP, onother via dvi and another via hdmi, no problem, no difference (if one of the displays got speakers build in youd like to use id use a hdmi on that though)

If you go above 1080p and 60hz it DOES mak a difference which is explained in the post i linked above pretty well ;)

You should be fine with the Strix then, you can use display port on the good monitor and dvi or HDMI on the poop screen. Won't make much of a difference if the monitor isn't very good anyways.
