Cherry Mx switches

DaRealSlimShady

What cherry MX switch would you recommend for gaming, content creation, and typing. Coming from a rubber dome keyboard I like them all so I don't know what to choose.

Cherry MX browns if there are people near you.

Cherry MX blues if you are the only one. (The keys make a 'click' sound)

Personal preference. You can't really have someone tell you which is best, you really have to feel them for yourself.

It's like asking people what the best flavor of ice cream is. We'll all have different opinions. Which you might love, or hate.

If you want to replicate a rubber dome keyboard, then I recommend either MX Browns or Reds with soft o-rings. It honestly boils down to your personal preference though, so I recommend tying out each switch before you make the switch(oh the puns).

If you can, I would buy a switch tester. That way you can try out all the switches for yourself. If you have a microcenter close by, go there and try the different switches.

I like Reds. I game a lot and I can really double/triple/+ tap super fast. They also feel amazing and have a nice sounds when typing. No complaints. I'm sure any Cherry MX switches will feel awesome to you though.

Is there a whole area dedicated to is or do I have to ask for the to bring out each individual keyboard switch.

Reds are best for FPS games, blues are best for typing. Browns are an in-between.

Reds are most similar to membrane boards, but have very light actuation which makes them attractive to FPS gamers.

Noise level in increasing order: red, brown, blue

If you live with someone PLEASE do not get blues. Blues are loud but are the most satisfying to type on.

Go to best buy and try out the keyboards they have on display... But buy online or from FRYs. Best buy = geek squad = EVIL

Check out the thread in my sig to get info about switches. Take the quiz in there too. You can ask me on a PM or on here about the result you got.

Basically, how often will you be gaming, how loud do you like your switches, how heavy do you type and what is your price range?

In Microcenter, they have a peripherals section. The one that is near me has Ducky 3's in Red, Brown, Black, and Blue. I literally opened up the box and tried the switches.

I use mechanical keyboards purely for the tactile feedback so my vote's for blues and greens. I love my Poker II with reds but it's just not satisfying to play games with.
