ok so i think i have a rat in my system when i opened notepad++ after an update this randomly started typing on its own (http://gyazo.com/a0b46c07cff8ef027f48375bf610dfee) if i do have a rat and format my main hard drive with my OS on it is there a possibility it will still be there on my 2nd hard drive? the only thing on my 2nd drive is games

A rat is like a virus or something? That's some weird ass virus... 

I think they just installed a small program. You could check control panel's programs first, to see if there is something weird there.

Otherwise, probably formatting the drive with NotePad++ is fine.
