Windows 7 or 8 for low spec single core 1GB RAM PCs? (Asus EB1007)

zuboici
Go to solution Solved by zuboici,

Pretty much.

I do quite fancy throwing Mint on one of the public use PCs once things settle down. Their needs are quite narrow and specific. The only things stopping me are everyone wants MS Office available no all machines and the odd web based service that requires IE.

Well in any case I've decided it's time to take the punge myself and grab a Win8 while my ISIC card's still valid.

I have a room full of Asus EB1007 EeeBox PCs and a source for enough copies of Windows 7/8 to update them all.... Praise that Lord.

Question is Windows 7 or 8?

Most are public use computers (it's a charity) but there's some staff only machines too. I'm thinking Win7 for staff and Win8 for public use.

Thoughts?

(there's very little chance of hardware upgrades, was very little chance of more recent OS until just now)

I would personally say Windows 7, unless there are drivers for 8/8.1.

I'm gonna propose we get a single copy of each and try them both so we know where we are.

Asus page says drivers for XP & 7 but not 8... 8 is mentioned though several times - I suspect 8 has the drivers.

Thanks for the input :)

And then no one knows how to use it and everything goes to shit.
