Building a system near the seashore?

Just to clarify the title, I am planning to build a workstation/mini server in a beach resort, meaning it is near the beach/seashore.

This system will not have its own "specialized" server room. I just wanted to know what are some factors that has to be accounted for when building a system for that kind of environment.

  • Will humidity be an issue?
  • Will the environment encourage rust on the case and on some of the components?
  • What kind of material should the case be? (aluminum)?
  • What are some precautions that I should take?
  • Airflow setup for the system?
  • What kind of cooling should I use? (Stock, Air, Water)

*Note: The temperature can go from 22°C(72 F) - 24°C (75 F) during this time of the year and it can go up to 30+ °C (86 F+) during summer.

TIA

unless you plan to make it in the ocean... no there will be no issues what so ever

as for cooling... its up to you

aslong as you have good airflow in the case, you wont have any problems

If it's an a/c room and the air get turned off you will need to be concious about moisture developing. I've lived on the beach for a year and half and the dorms where not properly sealed and the a/c didn't suck the humidity out so when the air got turned off everything began to sweat. People would have to put everything fabric into the dryer. This was in Galveston. You issue could differ depending on region.

@pedro69 do you have any recommendations with a case with that kind of specs? Something that you have used in the past? Thanks for the info 'cause that what was really worried me about the location.

@Jaybird IDK if the room would have a/c though. most likely it would have but i see your point when it gets turned off. I won't be able to control that kind of situation (letting the a/c always turned on). is it better to have it in a room with no a/c (to keep room temp somewhat stable) and have my cooling on the system do the work? Or is it still recommended to have an A/C inside the room?

What ever you feel you need will be fine. If it is a/c then just be conscious about cold starts as humidity could have condinsated on the mobo.

Well my case is 10 Years old but I live a little further from the beach (about half a mile) so it does not have that much impact here.

If you can't find or afford an Aluminum case make sure it is at least well coated (painted) and the sheet metal used is not flimsy.

Choices I would use in this climate:

Corsair Obsidian 450D

Fractal Design R4 or R5

Higher end Coolermaster/Thermaltake/NZXT cases

sorry to be bug. I just want to clarify if my understanding is correct. If there is A/C in the room, I should be careful of moisture when the A/C is turned off. If the room is not sealed, air doesn't go out, there are no worries with the humidity and the salt in the air for the system? If so, that means my only worry would be the A/C turning off? Am I correct in my understanding? :DxD

if the room does not seal and they A/c system does not pull humidity from the room and the air suddenly turns off with out warning you will most likely develop condensation. If any of these is ruled out then you have no worries.
