Best non gaming college laptop?

Go to solution Solved by Norman_the_Owl,

With the Zenbook would you recommend the i5 version or i7? Don't care that much about the extra price if it's worth it.

Well, if you're just doing a lot of web browsing, I'd say stick with the I5. If you're doing more than that though, I'd go for the I7. It has a much nicer display, as well. It also has dedicated graphics just in case.

IMO the I7 is definitely a good step* up, but only if you need it.

*and for a reasonable price

Just wondering if anyone can throw recommendations for a good non gaming laptop for college work. Price between $800-$1200. Thinking about this one

But XPS 13 2015 is out now, with Broadwell. Better choice then last-gen XPS 12 or Zenbook IMO

it's not a 2 in 1 tho.  :P

You get much better out of the zenbook for the same price. At the same price, you only get 4g of ram and no touchscreen as opposed to the zenbook with 8 gb of ram and a touchscreen

4GB is still enough for college work, and do you really need a touchscreen on a laptop?

i5 is definitely more worth it on an Ultrabook. i7 will help with things like video editing and other CPU-intensive tasks but you shouldn't be buying an ultrabook for those purposes anyways. However again keep in mind with the Zenbook you will be buying a last-generation CPU.
