Got a crapton of PS2 games lying around in my room and my ps2 is sitting under my parents' tv gathering dust. Is it a good idea to emulate PS2 games?

Also is it legal as i can use the discs and is my PC good enough as i have heard that the emulators are power-hogs

Sure, if you want to do it..

Not gonna talk about the legal and illegal stuff because it depends on the country you live in.

I think your PC is good enough for it.

It's 100% legal but only if you make ISOs (or whatever format) of your discs, not download them, and you rip the BIOS off your PS2 by modding it.

PS2 Emulation is %150 legal and safe on PCSX2 if you use your own PS2 bios on it.

I emulate a few games on it, but I get around 40 FPS on most games.

Last time i checked, PS2 emulators weren't that great, they support a very limited list of games but you could try your luck

Emulation is not as simple as "PS2 had weak hardware compared to my PC, therefore my PC can emulate it well".

It is quite taxing... But, it's 40 FPS with AA on 8X, 2560x1440. It's pretty much PS2 on serious steroids.

Why emulate if you have the console?

Better graphics? TV is only 50Hz

Wouldnt the graphics be the same outside of AA and resolution? And @Suffokation were only running 40fps anyways, So i think the experience would be better with the regular PS2 and CRT tv.

But you can try just becouse you can.

I could run it at 144 FPS if I was running it on PS2 settings.

I am not however.
