Make my GPU not sound like a jet engine taking off?

WastedEmu
Go to solution Solved by dalekphalm,

hello all, I have an XFX HD7950 DD Black Edition GPU, and when I'm playing any game that's graphically demanding, the thing sounds like a jet engine. It's being used on my HTPC, so it would be nice if there was some way I can quiet it down a bit atleast lol.

Hi!

Please download and install "MSI Afterburner" and then set a custom fan curve:

http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

Guide:

http://www.overclock.net/t/646422/how-to-adjust-your-fan-curve-in-msi-afterburner

Set a custom fan curve.

I don't think the OP knows how to do this.

It's a AMD, expect it.

My WF3 7950 disagrees with your baseless, false statement. Source? Anything to back this up? Or is this simple fanboyism? I hope not. I'll await your sources.

You should be able to get a G10 and some kind of AIO for it. I have the 7950DD with the non-reference PCB, and I should be able to use one as well. Mine is loud and hot. I hate it.

Yeah... 7950's aren't really a high TDP chip... Most have dual 6-pin PCIe connectors as far as I can tell.

Oops, misread. Thought he had a 280X. "fanboyism" I used to run a R9 290 and it was hot as fuck.

G10 is an ear saver. would highly recommend if you aren't afraid of taking the cooler off your card, or watching a few youtube videos on the installation procedure.

A 280X is basically a 7970 GHz edition... Which has similar temps of a 7950... which is totally different from a R9 290. So your comparison is still not correct.

BTW, what R9 290 did you own? Aftermarket/Third party coolers from the likes of ASUS and Gigabyte have demonstrably removed most - if not all - concerns of the GPU's running too hot. Most won't even break 70 C on load.

The heat issue is very bad on reference cards - this is true. But Reference coolers are usually shit anyway.

Just a warning, the G10 doesn't watercool the VRM or the rest of the board aside from the GPU die. It does have that big fan, but then you're using a fan again anyway.

Great device if your current cooler dies outside of Warranty, but I'd not recommend a newbie installing this in the slightest.

Thanks for all the quick replies! I haven't really explored MSI's afterburner program that much so I'll check it out.

Thanks again!
