so i OC'd my 4690K...

HJX2

it seems to be running stable at 4.6GHz 1.29V and around 68~70C under full load when running cinebench R15.

im guessing i drew the short straw on the chip?

EDIT: i read other threads with lower voltages that said a 4790K not a 4690K. my bad ._.

Nice oc. Good temps. good voltage. Nothing more to say.

Luck of the draw.

What were you hoping for, 5.0GHz? :D

but i misread the threads i was looking at before i OC'd.. i just realised they were talking about 4790K not 4690K --

whats wrong with that? looks good

i have no idea whats good and whats bad.. i just assumed at 1.29V i could get a bit more

is it? i dont know whats a good voltage for a 4690K since ive seem to read only threads that say 4790K (i cant read for shit today it seems...)

it just seems like 1.29 seems to be on the high side

from looking around 1.29 seems a common volatage, doesn't relay matter as long as temps are controller and they are :)

You should be happy it isn't taking that voltage at 4.2Ghz or 4.0GHz.

I had my 4690K up to 4.9GHz at 1.32V, just for comparisons sake. From my research a 4.6GHz at 1.29 is about average, though most seem to be able to creep to 4.7GHz if you really go for it with the voltage. I would be happy with that result though!

I believe the term is: *in British accent* "POWWAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

As for the OC, that's a good speed. I'm planning to get a 4690K soon and I'll think I'll keep it at 4.2 or so... I want it to last as long as I can.

you are indeed correct.

i might lower my speed for the longivity as well soon

Haha.

And yeah, I think lowering it a bit may be a good plan to make sure it fulfils the 200 USD spent on it...

Is the 970 STRIX performing well? I used to be debating between the Asus 970 STRIX and then decided to plan on using the Gigabyte 970 Windforce.. Is it performing well? Also why so much W on your PSU? o_o

Its doing well. The strix does really well. I could have gone for a windforce with the r4 case but oh well.

I got a 1000w psu for cheaper than a 750w due to a sale. And considering sli later

Youve got one hell of a jacked core. Could you check with a doping test see if its running on steroids

An extra question is, how do i know when my cpu is dying/degrading away?

the point was that it runs at that clock at such low voltage, most stock 4790ks run at around 1.26v at 4.4ghz

ahhh sorry i still dont understand much of the overclocking talk. apologies. i lowered my voltage to 1.25V and freq at 4.5GHz right now. might lower it further at a later date so i guess i should be happy with this result ^^

you know its degrading when it requires more voltage to run at the same clock speed, say after 1yr of running completely fine at 1.3v 4.8ghz it starts to bsod alot and now requires 1.32 to run at the same clock because is degraded slightly
