>So I was in my computer class today and I had nothing to do so I started doing research into how to upgrade a laptops GPU. It came up that the easiest way was an external alternative. People have said that its possible to run Desktop graphics cards on laptops.

>This brought me to my second thought. My friend has a Raspberry Pi that he uses just to mess around on. I started wondering if I could use a desktop graphics card I had laying around on it.

>I am thinking of using the GPIO or the USB 2.0 to connect to a PCIe mini slot.

>Then use that PCIe mini slot to connect one of those desktop GPU to laptop adapters ( http://www.banggood....d-p-934367.html ) to like a GPU to that.

>This is absolutely ridiculous. I doubt anyone has tried this but would it be possible? Im willing to drop the 50$ on the adapter because I would probably end up using it in my actual laptop and the 15ish for the GPIO to PCIe mini is a trivial amount of money compared to the GPU and the laptop I have.

>So in the end IS THIS POSSIBLE?????????????????

Even if it is possible the bottleneck would be so awful that the GPU would commit subaru

probably worth an experiment with if you have the money or use of an adapter outside of the pi, but it certainly won't give any suitable improvement due to bandwith and bottlenecked by the pi SoC, plus getting drivers for your GPU on the type of linux that the pi runs will be very difficult indeed.

Even if it were possible, the passively cooled CPU of the Pi will probably bottleneck it. A lot.

It's probably possible to connect one, but the lack of drivers will probably limit you to vga resolution (640x480) if you get any output at all. Doesn't make any sense. Besides, the gpu on the pi is an absolute beast for such a small board.
