That 3 egg rating has me worried.

My last three Barracudas died within a year. All from different batches.

Wouldn't touch it.

I own 7 already, got a couple almost 3 years ago, and then kept adding over the years, have yet to have any problems with any of them.  If I didn't have 2x 5TB drives arriving today I would have gotten a few of these.

THIS IS MY SUPER TEENY TINY SIGNATURE!

Ain't it just the cutest little signature.

Some would argue it is the cutest little signature ever.

Newegg rating is one of the most overrated things in existence....

Most of the complains are caused by the consumers being dumb, others that ordered incorrectly, others that couldn't do the MiR, others that think the specs were wrong, others got shipping problems... and I can keep like this all day. There is very few people that can provide a review about the quality of an actual product and talk about inconveniences, and those are mostly taken care of the manufacturer's crew on the same comments.

My last five Barracudas have been running in a server 24/7 for over a year now, two were used when I put them in the server, and are just peachy.

Hard drives are luck of the draw, no matter what manufacture you go with.

Yeah the reviews on newegg do tend to be a bit ridiculous.

Well if it's worked out for all of you so far then I think I will tell my friend to use this in his build he's working on.

He was going to get a WD black like I have but I have been curious about this brand.

I will let him be the guinea pig. Haha

Thank you all for your input.

Barracudas are just slightly slower than Blacks with the biggest difference being the shorter warranty.

Yeah the warranty was pretty much the selling point for me because the prices at the time were not too far apart. 5 year warranty sounded good to me.

However if the Barracuda was this price when I bought my WD I would have preferred to slap two of these bad boys in my rig for close to the same price.

(At the time I purchased the Black it was $150  )

That more likely a retailer handling or shipping problem then a drive problem

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

I have that drive (the one in Linus' video) and i love it.

The fast speed (not much slower than a V300) and huge cache work wonders for gaming

I just bought this for way more motherf-

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

better than amazon-

"It's probably fine, but I wasn't the part I needed. Not compatible. I ordered the wrong part. 1 star."

They are some of the best out there and widely used in enterprise. It was due to a faulty batch of an older drive that gave them a bad name
