PCIE 3.0 improves Overclocking?

Hello,

 

Simple question, PCIe 3.0 because of the higher power capability it has, does it help cards with high voltages/watts?

 

Also, if I get a 4790k with a maximus vii formula, will it provide more hedroom?

All PCIe generations provide the same amount of maximum power. The only thing PCIe 3.0 does is provide more bandwidth to the expansion cards.

It doesn't have higher power capability. Just a wider data transfer bus.

No and no. PCIe 3.0 will not, nor will the motherboard, affect GPU overclocking.

All of the additional power comes from the power connectors on top of the graphics card.

PCIe does not provide more power, but rather bandwidth so the answer is not, it will not in any way affect the voltages or overclocking capabilities of a given card. The power for the card comes predominantly form the 6 or 8-pin connectors on the card itself.

It doesn't have higher power capability. Just a wider data transfer bus.

It may SLIGHTLYY improve overclocking, but won't improve sheer performance (by much).

When looking for a motherboard, simply look for features you need. Don't exactly need a "high brand $XXX dollar motherboard to run Minecraft at 30 fps, (Exaggeration)"

If you actually need 3 PCIE slots, or have a hard-on for aesthetics, then this board is fine if you can back up the price for it.

Very slight increase in power. Not enough to make a difference to your graphics card, as I said, the additional power comes from the connectors on top.

It aloows more power through pci-e. So some cards can use just pci=e instead of gpu connections. It doesnt affect overclocking. Unless ofcourse your gpu is maxing the power pci-e is capoable of.. Inwhich you gpu prob has power connectors for this.

Nope not even a 1MHz increase for PCI-E 3.0, I did notice that between my system and my friends AMD system the R9 280 he gave me overclocks like crazy on my system but didn't overclock at all when on his system.

No.  It basically provides enough power for a basic card like WiFi or a basic sound card to operate, nothing more.  It won't even begin to benefit a GPU in any way.

Incorrect. PCIe across all generations provides the same amount of power, which is 75 watts. This is what the PCIe standard specifies. However, not all expansion cards can make use of the extra power. Sound cards are limited to something like 15 watts.

Yes, I said that most of the power is provided by the connectors on the card itself and that changing from PCIe 2.0 to 3.0 will not have an impact on that.
