Seeing as Unity can't even run 1080p 60 fps FLAWLESSLY yet, I can't imagine you running it @ 4K with 60 fps on a single Kingpin Card

Even with SLI 980s you still won't be able to get a lot of games to 60 fps on 4k. Probably the GM200 GPU also won't be able to run newer games maxed out at 4k, even when put in SLI. Currently 4k gaming is only viable if you either are ok wih lower graphics settings or less than 60fps.

This is what Assassin's Creed Unity plays like with SLI 980's at 1440p. No single card setup will be able to handle it at 4K. Unless of course you turn all the graphics settings to low.

The Kingpin or Classified Editions from EVGA are not better in terms of more performance for normal gaming.

These cards are specifically made for extreme OCers! They won't do black magic in terms of performance. But they will be qualified for LN2 overclocking and extreme OCing with their special phases, VRMS, and extra power connectors. They have out of the box triple BIOS that come with unlocked stats. The average Joe can't make use of these features and will not benefit from the premium you will have to pay for it.

And to make 4K (not WatchDogs or AC Unity though) enjoyable even a GTX980 2way SLI or R9 290X 2way CF won't be enough for VeryHigh settings. I've had that and went back to 1440p and there the GTX980 2way SLI was awesome in every way.

Since I upgraded to a GTX980 3way SLI I'm back on running 4K because it's the first time where I find 4K really enjoyable with not only of being able to play with VeryHigh settings (max 2x AA) but enjoying very stable minimum FPS in AAA titles.

Kind of funny how people under estimate what kind of GPU raw computing power is needed to drive a 4K display in games. Sure enjoyable is always a matter of definition but I don't find 25-55FPS very enjoyable.

To drive a 1440p monitor a GPU has to render 77% more pixels... and that's just 2.5k.

The next highend series of AMD and nVidia could be the first time that 4K gets really awesome with a 2way CF or SLI. If you can believe the specs the big Maxwell is supposed to have 3072 Cuda cores, that would be 50% more than GM204 with the fast L2 cache and the efficiency of Maxwell with a 384bit memory interface and 6 to 12 GB VRAM. I hope we see this rather soon than late this year.

Intel i7 7820X (delidded) @ 4.9GHz - MSI X299 M7 ACK + EKWB Fullcover Block - G.Skill Trident Z 32GB @ 3466MHz - nVidia Titan Xp + EKWB Fullcover Block @ 2.1GHz - Samsung 960Pro 2x - WDD Blue 2TB - Seasonic 750W Platinum - modded Corsair 600C - Hardtubed Custom Watercooling

If you're into 4K gaming you should take the extra money that the Kingpin costs and put it into a second 980 instead. Anyone who could make use of the true benefits of the Classy or Kingpin cards wouldn't even have to ask so I'm assuming you won't be overclocking like crazy.

Or hold off for AMD's new cards coming out. From what I've seen, 2x 290X does better at 4K than 2x 980 in most scenarios and especially for the money.

Turnip OC'd to 3Hz on air

Unity is a pile of junk -- avoid at all costs. On another note, SLI 980s sounds rather nice.

The K|NGP|N edition is overpriced, IMHO (err, will be). Unless your some hardcore overclocker, who is too worried about benchmark performance...

If you buy the K|NGP|N edition and don't put that thing underwater you have problems.

2x 290x 8gb

In some applications they out perform the gtx980's and they certainly scale better in performance from 1080p to 4k however even with the poor scaling and the 980's really dropping off at 4k - the 980 still out performs the 290x 8gb (in most applications, in many they are within a few frames of each other, but in quite a few the 980 streaks ahead)

2x GM200 MSI lightnings

;)

Well 390x lightning would be probably better. It'll just take another 6 months to get here

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it
