What device would you recommend that fits these specs?

In my school days I and a bunch of fellow techies WERE the schools IT guys, and audio guys too (behringer x32 that was kinda sweet)

It runs now a server end network infrastructure youd expect from a mid-range positioned company

with server room dual 12.core xeon servers and all this beautiful stuff

 

to OP did i get this right?:

Your school tells xou to buy your own notebook (or netbook or ultrabook whatever beautiful marketing names it is branded) and then they want to install software on it to whatch what youre doing?

Are they going to be able to remote control your device

 

anyway id recommend to go with an ssd or sshd no matter what because waiting for aour harddrive sucks exspecially on notebooks

yes they can remote control your device if its in the schools network range. but im going to have an external sd card that they install all there crap too and just remove it.

Yeah, controlling a school-owned device is one thing, but having you pay several hundred dollars to buy it, and THEN still controlling it? That seems a bit harsh.

My school gives all the students iPads for only $25 in insurance, so it's understandable to monitor it. But if they expected us to pay $300-$400 for it and then still locked it down, I'd be so pissed.

Hah, it sucks for me because I got there the year they were handing out iPad 2s (which were already 3 years old by that time), so now the newer students are getting iPad Airs, meaning they skipped a generation for the class right after mine and gave them the 4th gen  :angry:

He means it's not allowed on the computers. Because they're bringing their own, and so there's a possibility that someone will want to use Linux instead of windows.

I know, but I mean all schools run on windows, and all their software does, so for compatibility reasons they will want students to use windows on their own machines so that software can be installed, files can be transferred etc etc, so the IT guys can help with network problems etc

i think im going to get the hp stream 11 and install a linux distro on an sd card and use that if possible. i know its circumventing stuff but it really is too restrictive. even one of my teachers has agreed with me (he is a techie like me)

It's so that they can see what the students are doing, which is really none of their damn business if it's on their own machines. They can restrict the network, by all means, but no-one tells me what to do on my computer.

they can if you are accessing their network, you dont own the network or internet connection, they have a right to restrict and monitor it

Guys, calm your temper. The only software requirement I see is the VMWare Horizon client, I quote:

Seems like a virtual desktop viewer client to me, not the Big Brother himself. Seems like a bring your own device (BYOD) style system to me, like you get in certain airplanes or bus services.

i can explain this. vmware is free so they want you to install it yourself.

 

but they have a paid program that they use to monitor screens.

Monitoring students and locking them out is A okay on school computers since I know how well we worked in school if we sat at the computers (not very). But installing monitoring software on a private machine seems highly suspect to me. Who promises me that they do not monitor my computer at home? Expecting every family to pay for a seperate machine for school use.

 

I would write a letter to the school and ask for the name and version number of the software to see what it is about. I mean it is your machine that you will be bringing into your home network so you have an interest in knowing what it is about.

i know what the software is called. its net control 2.0 which i believe only works on whatever network it is based on. im pretty sure.

disable Task Manager (processes list)

Execute Command prompt's commands

Run and stop system services remotely

Log activity on User computers (even if computer is not in the network or Administrator computer is not connected)
