chromecast vs roku

Which roku?

Chromecast is a little dongle that allows to stream stuff from PC to TV (chrome ATM i  AFAIk), as well as streaming YT, Netflix, Hulu, that stuff. Roku is a box that does that except the PC streaming.

I had the Chromecast and it was awful. Takes a long time to connect/turn on, always dropped the connection, and sometimes would be out of sync.

No experience with roku.

I'd imagine that it would be better because it has it's own discrete remote and it doesn't rely on a WiFi connection (idk, could be dodgy) but it also costs more, so there's a tradeoff there.

Don't have any complains with the Chromecast. No clue about the Roku.

 

(Only posting because I see so much negativity about the Chromecast which I disagree with from my experience)

If you can only afford a streaming stick then I would go:

- Roku Stick

- Fire TV Stick

- Chromecast

 

 

If you have a bit more to spend, then I would recommend the Amazon Fire TV with XBMC/Plex over any of those sticks, or a Roku 3 if you can stretch that far.

They're far superior and worth the extra imo.

Basically, if you want to be able to use it without a phone, get a Fire TV Stick or Roku Stick (Fire TV if amazon prime member). 

 

If you don't mind relying on a phone to stream, get a chromecast for $30.
