970 Gigabyte G1 or non G1

ShotDC
Go to solution Solved by cooperb21,

G1 is considered very best 970 in Overclocking. Usually its worth exta 10-20$ since you can actually get alot of performance out of card with a good OC and it will last longer.

Depending on your luck most G1's you should be able get to have 20 fps more in some games than a normal 970.

so i decided to get the gigabyte 970, but i dont know which one, so i need help, its there any big diference btween the two?

Are you overclocking?

The G1 has binned chips with higher OC potential. If not a regular 970 is completely fine.

System: Thinkpad T460

G1 gaming if you want to overclock it and really push it otherwise the Non G1 is just fine.

This is what the G1 sample I got to use today did:

I'd go for the G1 as it has a backplate which will help reduce GPU sag and stress on the PCIe slot.

The G1 has a binned chip for higher OC potential, a blue illuminated "Windforce" logo, and a backplate.

I owned (before upgrading to SLI 980's) and highly recommend the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NH5T1MS. The card performs amazingly for the price and comes with some nice clocks out of the box. Like everyone else is saying, it's a beast of an overclocker with a great air cooler and binned chip.

Seems to me getting a non g1 gigabyte 970 isn't the best idea because of their binning process. If I understand it right the good performing GPUs are G1s, and the rest are the non g1s, so a non g1 gigabyte 970 is already proven to be a less than stellar overclocker, whereas with another brand at least theres the chance you can win the silicon lottery with your card.

Maybe im missing something or don't understand how gigabytes binning process works.
