[Rumor]The Sony Xperia Z4 might be offered in both QHD (1440p) and FHD (1080p) versions with better waterproofing and shiny metal

snowComet

Eprice Taiwan published an article yesterday, claiming the Sony Z4 will have several features upgraded from the Z3. But since these are still rumors, we need to take it with a grain of salt.

post-32565-0-40390900-1420687030.png

Eprice TW's summary of the changes from Z3 to Z4

Firstly, the Taiwanese website claimed the Z4's screen will remain @ 5.2", but it will have both 1440p and 1080p variants. While the 1440p variant will be available in the US market, in certain markets only the 1080p variant will be offered. This could be a good chance for reviewers to compare the impact on battery life with the QHD screen, if this rumor is true.

The website also claimed there will be small changes in the design of the phone. Firstly, the Z4's metal frame will treated with a glossy finish. Then the micro usb port will be moved from the left side to the bottom, and the port cover will be removed, as the port could remaining waterproof although not being securely closed with the port cover. And because of this change of design, the magnetic charging point will not be found on the Z4. Also the phone may come in different colors, while blue color would be one of the options.

(for those who don't know what magnetic charging point is, please click here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286749-rumorthe-sony-xperia-z4-might-be-offered-in-both-qhd-1440p-and-fhd-1080p-versions-with-better-waterproofing-and-shiny-metal/#entry3893219 )

Lastly, the front camera would have some improvements, and the Z4 would still have a large capacity battery. And there are no words on specs in this rumor.

So what do you think? Would these changes attract you to buy the Z4, if they are true?

p.s. The Taiwanese media also stated that the phone in the leaked render from the North Korean hack (pic below) is indeed the real Z4......

Not a fan of glossy metal, as for the rest I'm not sure...

What is a magnetic charging point?

the two golden point on the phone, as you can see on the right side of the photo, a bit blurred..

And they are used to charge the phone, or connected the phone with a dock, like this:

Oh I'm sure it just seems like they have been pushed into obscurity and they weren't even a year old (well except the Z1).

I wonder if Motorola will leave the Moto G alone or go and upgrade it.

I really wish AT&T would get the Xperia phones. I'd seriously consider getting one once I pay off my M7 if they had them.

They do. Off contract. T-Mobile is technically the only ones with on contract phones.

Hmmm. I was waiting for the Z4 but now I'm not so sure. I like the magnetic charging option. I like the matte finish on the metal edges.

Perhaps I'll have to pick up a hopefully cheaper Z3 Dual when this is released.

Unless that Snapdragon 810 is miles above the 801 in regards to battery life.

Oh yeah? Well the LG G4 is rumored to have a 5.7" 4k UHD display and a bigger battery.

Rumors like that are rarely true. I doubt it'll have a 4k display. It might get a stylus though.

Well... If this rumor is true, it seems to be a downgrade for me:

1080p is fine for 5-6" screens. I can't see any difference to 1440p at reasonable distances.

If they remove the magnetic charging port, they better add inductive charging. Both options are much more elegant than micro-usb-charging.

And a glossy frame is just a no-go. The glass-back makes the phone already slippery fingerprint-magnet, so this would only make it worse.

Above 1080p for phones is ludicrous. You don't need a crazy res to enjoy your phones.
