Need New $100 Headphones!

Guest

I have -100% knowledge of headphone makers and specs, and hunting around this past week is like skydiving without a parachute. I originally was looking for a more gaming-focused headset, something like the Astro A30s, but I was shot down by numerous people on that decision.

I've looked at stuff from Razer, Sol Republic, Sennheiser (The HD 280 Pros are what my brother has, and with normal Spotify music they sound terrible, which I guess is because they aren't made for more low-quality audio sources), and all sorts of stuff, but none of it really seems to be 'the one.'

Anyone have a pair that they really like, and can give a nice amount of bass without crossing the Beats line? I was looking at the HyperX Cloud (which Linus loved), but I don't know if they're good for non-gaming audio. I'll be using mine for both gaming and typical music/movies.

Budget: $100 (preferably on Amazon for quicker delivery with Prime)

Well, I have these coming in http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54

Supposed to be very clean and clear. Not heavy on the bass like you might like though. Your Sennheiser HD or HyperX Cloud seem cool but the reason it sounded bad was likely because the Ohms requirement (power draw for headphones, listed on their spec pages) was too high for your device. They're in the 60 ohms range, while most gaming headsets and the one I bought are usually 30-35 ohms. People say Sennheisers have good/extra bass so that might be the brand you're looking for.

Other non-gaming brands include Superlux, AKG.. Those are for general audio. Some gaming brands to look into are: Logitech, Plantronics, and Steelseries. These usually have settings for gaming/entertainment audio and decent general audio. It's really up to you what you go for and at $100 you're probably not going to make a mistake. But feel free to run it past the audiophiles to confirm.

What I mean is things made only for the Average Consumer and not an Audiophile in mind. (For Example, Razer)

Definitely not audiophile, because my music comes from Spotify, so headphones for FLAC-level quality will make it sound awful.

Elaborate. Could help us pinpoint what your sound taste is.

That's not how it works.
