Like it says in the topic title what is the minimum internet speed required to stream 4K content like from YouTube, Netflix etc without experiencing any buffering when watching the videos.

I have a 4 MBPS connection and find it good for 720P and just ok for 1080P.

Netflix says 20Mbps

Supposedly X.265  is supposed to use the same amount of bandwidth as 1080p when it gets implemented.

Youtube will likely use their own (shitty) compression.,

As for downloading 4K from Youtube, just use this and watch it locally from your hard drive.

https://www.4kdownload.com

Supports 60fps videos also.   up to 24 videos in a playlist.

Paid version has no limits and can download entire channels.

My parents have 10 mbit and the 4k does not even load. I think maximum bitrate on youtube videos now is 50K or 60K so 50mbit is pretty much what I would say you need to enjoy it without any kind of hiccups.

I would think around 20mb/s

Would this be for a compressed 4K Video like on YouTube or Is it for something with a higher bitrate?

Currently on the 4 MBPS are these pricing considered fair? (for USD, Amount / 3.65)

Nope... Not fair at all.

For comparison's sake, Singapore has Gigabit for 37 USD a month.

I Just Corrected my post I meant (Amount / 3.65) Not (Amount * 3.65). Anyway it is still more but I wonder how the pricing stacks up with other regions in the world.

Does anyone have higher prices than this?

No, those prices are definitely unfair. The 1meg option comes in at ~£40/month, which is totally stupid. I'm on a 1meg connection and that's down to line speed. It's an up to 16meg package for about £20/month (AND it's data capped at 40GB). Line rental's an extra £15 I think, which totals up to £35. I don't know if your line rental's included in that (or if you have to pay for it), but if it isn't then you're paying over double the price I'm paying for a package that's limited to 1meg artificially, compared to mine which SHOULD be up to 16meg artificially. Ignoring my line speed issues, I'm getting around a 32x better deal. BT Infinity (their fibre service) is less than £40/month for the basic, which is around 35meg. If line rental IS included in that then it's closer to the UK pricing, but still terrible.

UK broadband pricing is actually quite bad, mainly because of the government's lack of interest in decent infrastructure and speed increases. They consider 20meg+ to be 'superfast'. Hell no that ain't. That's "ok/decent", not 'superfast'. I just noticed that the 10meg package is the same price as the 1meg - that's really ripping the ADSL customers off!

There is no data cap on any of the options (Unlimited Data). The line rental is included in all the options. Yes, The 1 MBPS and 10 MBPS, 2 MBPS and 25 MBPS has the same price. The one you mentioned for £40/month is Data Capped at 40GB Right?

No I'm kidding this is low. I would say 1 dollar for 1meg is fair.

No. I was saying that your 1meg option converts to £40/month (it's $68 or so). The one I pay for is somewhere between £30 and £35 and is data capped at 40GB.

Until you hit the 50meg mark at which point the scaling wouldn't be fair anymore. People with 200meg connections shouldn't be paying $200/month. There's a high chance their connection speed is mainly due to how good their line condition is and the fact their ISP stops speed limiting after a certain point.

Yeah. BTW your prices are REALLY cheap. €10/100meg is fantastic. That's like £8!

Yea.

There is even cheaper, but the service is not the best if something fails

http://www.k-sistemos.lt/lt

The veeeery cheap price is for 6 months and then 2 years you have to pay the normal price, which is still fairly cheap.

What happens when you cross the 40GB Cap? I mean if you are downloading AAA Games from steam and watch high resolution videos the 40GB would not be enough for 1 month. My data usage is about 250GB almost every month.

Well, firstly I can't watch high resolution videos because of my poor connection speed. I'm stuck with 360p, or 480p on a good day. As for what happens, well if we go over then they just start charging extra. It's £5/5GB (except you get charged the £5 AS SOON as you go over). The worst part is that it's 40GB for the family. So, really that works out at 10GB allowance for me, if we split it evenly.

As for downloading games I have to do it in stages. I've currently got Metro 2033, Mount and Blade: Warband, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Civ 5, a TF2 update and Bioshock to download. Oh, and L4D2, but that got to 90% and corrupted and had to start from scratch. After spending a couple months downloading it in stages I left it. Most of those games I got mid-December, except for TF2.

Edit: and we can't really get the limit removed until we go for Infinity. Our current contract was a special deal thingy and the only non-fibre upgrade isn't worth it as they might force us to break contract to do it. With the Infinity upgrade it should all work fine. However, I'm waiting for them to come along and activate the shiny new fibre cabinet on our high street.

Well that would mean the pricing you are on is even worse than what I am paying here. What is the pricing for Infinity? I am waiting for the fibre upgrade to come to my area as well... That is why I was curious to know which fibre speeds would be most suitable for me.
