Since schools aren't so heavy on it anymore and most of the users be in there 20s or younger i just wanted to know how many people knew how to write in cursive. My mom had left me a note this morning in cursive and i was amazed i could even read it XD. for me I was taught it in 3rd grade but it was very basic. I'm hardly able to write my name in cursive, my G looks like an S :D

I know how to, but it has been so long since the last time I wrote anything on a piece of paper, so I have no idea how it will look.

Most schools around here still place importance on learning cursive, although it is

starting to wane a bit. Having done primary school in 1992-1997 (god, I feel old) I

still had to learn it and can still use it.

I almost never use in its pure form however, and my personal hand writing is closer

to normal writing than cursive (there are some cursive elements, and I do strive for

a nice flow when writing, otherwise I'm just too slow to take proper notes in lectures  ).

cursive as in cursive handwriting / script?

Then yes, but i never really liked the style i learned in my school. (Here in germany there are 3 common types you can learn in school, depending on the school and/or district)

A thiny bit, yeah. :D

It's quite funny actually. It's not so much that I actually feel old, but that

my youngest brother (b. 1994) will be 20 next year. That's completely ridiculous, he

was only just born!

When somebody says something like "10 years ago today..." my brain instantly jumps to

1990 or somewhere into that neighbourhood.

From what I've heard this seems to be quite universal though. My neighbour upstairs

is ~40, and she's told me her brain often jumps to the 1980's in these sorts of

situations.

Anyway, </offtopic>

EDIT:

You didn't specify which language.

Good point, though usually cursive probably refers to languages using the latin

alphabet. Still, it would definitely be interesting to hear from people who grow

up with other alphabets/character sets (Arabic, far eastern etc.)

I can write it really neatly if I try a little.  Same with print.

If I'm writing notes really quickly though I end up with this weird hybrid cursive that makes sense to me but probably looks strange to anyone else.

True, my dad got us connected ~1995 or so (modem, baby! ). It really has been

quite a ride. The difference between me and people who are even just four years

younger is quite astonishing. The web (especially social media) are much more

integral to their way of thinking and their behavior (there are exceptions of course,

but the overall trend is strongly recognizable, I'm going to college with them).

Personally I'm much too paranoid to ever join facebook and the likes out of my own

free will (or upload my data to the cloud or something like that). I don't even

remotely trust these companies with my data and information.

<pedantic mode>

Of course you mean the world wide web, and not the internet. ;)

</pedantic mode>

I pretty much write in cursive all the time since my 4th year at primary school with very few exceptions like my name/subject code etc. on top of exam booklets because I really can't afford having anyone fail to recognise those. While I can write in print I'm much slower and I have to keep reminding myself not to slip back into using cursive because it comes so natural.

Either way I don't write words that much, mostly numbers, units, mathematical functions etc.  :D.

Exactly the same as me. When I try to write in print I always screw up and slip into cursive.
