Samsung may abandon the Galaxy Alpha after just a few months

for a close system with no expansion capability , what'd you expect

The production of the 'Galaxy Alpha' will be stopped…taking the bull by the horn under pressure to lower prices.

Samsung officially announced its mid-range, all metal Galaxy Alpha smartphone in August last year, however the device may soon be discontinued after just a few short months on sale according to new rumors coming from inside the industry.

Apparently, the sudden shift away from the Galaxy Alpha will allow Samsung to focus on more affordable devices. Despite the Alpha’s improved build quality, sales weren’t all that great, according to ET News. While the Alpha may be going away, Samsung will be launching the Galaxy A5, which will feature similar specifications and a metal build.

“After the enforcement of the Terminal Distribution Structure Improvement Act, it was confirmed that there are demands for mid-to low-priced cell phones like the MVNO phones,” said Chang Jung-hyeok, vice-president of Atlas Research. “Even in the same price range, Chinese phones are less reliable than Samsung phones. So it will be meaningful as a premium model in the mid-to low-priced product line.”

“The ‘Galaxy Alpha’ is being produced currently,” said an SEC insider about this. “We may adjust the production quantity according to market reactions, though.” "Nothing specific has been determined yet with regard to the January release of the ‘Galaxy A5.’”

The Galaxy A5 will also feature a 5 inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and a Snapdragon 410 CPU. The specifications are comparable to what was found inside of the Galaxy Alpha.

Samsung isn’t only focusing on the low end though, the Galaxy S6 is rumored to make an appearance at CES and may very well launch during Q1 of this year.

This again proves that you should never buy into early access. It's not even a beta for God's sake, just an alpha.

It was an expensive phone for what you were getting. Felt nice in the hand though.

The phone was way to expensive for the specs. It was a lot of money, and it still only had a 720p screen, relatively small battery, and not top of the line specs.

It was just dissapointing

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

To me, the Alpha felt like an alpha. The specs weren't as bad as you might think but they were kind of the test platform for a lot of stuff. The SoC was Samsung's first 20nm chip and also their first attempt at a few things like hardware accelerated HEVC. The screen was the first from their latest generation of SAMOLED displays (same generation that was used in the Note 4). It was the first Samsung phone (at least in the Galaxy series) with a metal frame.

It was not a bad phone (other than the low resolution display) but it really didn't deserve such a high price tag.

Sure it may be low res, but it has close to 300ppi which is pretty acceptable.

But when you're charging the same as something like the LG G3 with a 1440p screen and top of the line specs, it just doesn't make sense to buy one

I did look into buying one at one point, the 'metal amaziballs' deal seemed cool.

But when the prices were revealed I was like lol nope.

And dat 720p, kinda turned me off somehow.
