Okay so me and my brother are going to be building a PC over the coming month or so and would really appreciate some help! the PC will be mainly for Gaming and some video editing, streaming etc. we've already got the case but need everything else.

So far were pretty set on using intel and nvidea, but we could definitely do with some advice with regards to;

cooling (layout of fans/rad, push pull config),

Overclocking of the CPU (and as we are fairly inexperienced if it is possible to overclock at a later date once we feel comfortable or if we should just do it from the off),

Our PSU, as far as stock wattages go i think we are covered but what if we Overclock the CPU?

As for connectivity, at least for the time being the pc will have to be connected via wifi, the room it will be in is a notoriously wifi problem zone so we want an antenna with good range/bandwidth etc.

Heres our Build so far:

First of all, your build looks solid.

You could safe some money if you would use a different motherboard. The MSI Z97-G45 Gaming could be a nice choice to keep that red and black color cheme. http://geizhals.de/msi-z97-g45-gaming-7821-002r-a1109406.html

You don't have to run the radiator in a push and pull config. Either one of those does the job, but you should get some decent pressure optimized fans. I use SP120s from Corsair, but there're probabaly better fans out there.

The PSU is fine for overclocking. Also you don't have to overclock the CPU now, you can also do it later on.

Thank you for the advice, I'll have a look into the msi board,

As for the push pull radiator question, sorry I was not referring to that... What I ment to ask was to do with the configuration/layout of my fans and AIO rad.

Our case comes with 3x fans. And we intend to add the h100i which has 2. Our GPU has its 2 exaust fans which I believe will vent upwards as will the fan in the PSU.

So what I wanted to ask was do I have my fans in the front of the case drawing cool air in and the rad in the top of my case pulling the warm air up and out. And the the remaing stock fan in the rear also exhausting hot air out?

Or do I have the rad in the front of the case with cool air passing through it and move the stock fans to the top of the case to help exaust?

I hope this makes sense !

Cheers and happy new year!,!

Also another fan related question, how should I control all of the fans & rad? Will they all automatically adjust to temp changes via bios? Or will we have to set them up with something such as corsair link software?

plug them into the motherboard, u can control the fans from the motherboard

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay so its finally almost time! all thats left to arrive is the PSU and our ssd (pictures to come!),

As i think is fairly obvious this will be our first time building a pc so we're a tad nervous but i think actually building it should be fine, what's more concerning is the initial set-up.. bios, installing windows (haven't used it for almost 5years) and then making sure everything is working, setting up fans and cpu cooler etc etc...

Could anyone lend a hand with these topics? I couldn't find a linus video showing much initial set-up although I may be wrong..

Thanks!

@xvantok thanks for the help! but we've already ordered all of our parts, pretty much as the list in this post.. we're more after advice with regards to setting the pc up once its built!

cheers!!

Haha oh my bad, looks like a decent build though! For a start DO NOT DO IT ON A CARPET OR STATIC SURFACE unless you want to rebuy all your components. I recommend doing it on a wood surface but any anti static surface will work. My advice would be to watch linus's ultimate build guides as they go through the whole process

It Won't Fail Cause of Me.
