Hello Guys,

I'm sure there has been abillion other topics similar to this one but I need your recommendations of mechanical keyboards for someone who has never used one before, I've only ever used membrane or chiclet like keyboards before but I'd thought I'd make the leap. I do a lot of word processing but will also use the keyboard for gaming, are there any people out there that do a lot of word processing on clicky mechanical keys and have gotten used to the noise? I'm on the fence of whether to get a silent key model mechanical keyboard because of this matter. I'm not too interest in Corsair's RGB as it seems like a big investment for something with so little difference, the same with Razers Chroma keyboard. Anyway guys what do you recommend for me?

I would say grab one of the CM Quickfire keyboards, they are great value and pretty much any kind of switch possible.

These smaller keyboards, are they easy to adjust to? Because I've always liked a keyboard with some sort of wrist rest like the K70 but a lot of people use very compact mechanical keyboards.

I see you purchased the k70, which is a great keyboard, i have the k95 and the wrist rest didnt really do much for me, so i ended up picking up one of these and it feels much better for me at least.

Hopefully I should be okay with the k70 wrist rest but if not I may invest into something like you posted. Thanks for the heads up.

What switch do you want? Check out the thread in my sig for that. Take the quiz (put thought into every answer) and respond back. Thanks!

I bought my first mechanical keyboard a few months back, the CM QuickFire Rapid-i with brown switches. It also comes with blue and red switches. I have only used these brown ones, and for me they are perfect for both typing and gaming.

It is a simple, sturdy, and all-round quality keyboard. It does not have many bells and whistles (which is why I chose it), it has a hefty backplate making it quite heavy and almost impossible to bend, and its rubber feet make it rock solid on the table. The back lighting is one colour (white), and you can do some neat things with it, but ultimately they are just a nice-to-have.

The brown switches do not have that "click" sound, but it is a little louder than your average rubber domes (instead of the "thump" sound it has a more high-pitched "clack" sound, as the keys are pressed).

The only thing that took some getting used to was the lack of a num-pad, especially the Enter key. I tended to reach for the Enter key only to hit the arrow keys instead. It is not a big deal, though; I got used to it quite fast.

Logitech G710 Plus. I upgraded from a G15 just a month ago and I am in love with the Cherry MX Brown Switches. It's my first mechanical keyboard and I'm really happy I went with it.

Blacks are a bit heavier than reds. You may not actually like reds but it's up to you.
