So after a few years together one of my Samsung 840s decided to call it quits and kill itself. RIP in peace my friend your fast speeds will be missed.

 

On a serious note I've had 3 SSDs die on me in the past 2 years. And zero hard drives in the same time period. Who said SSDs would last longer than HDDs?

 

Any of you guys had any SSDs die on you?

 

And yes I will be contacting Samsung and seeing what the deal is. I'm a little worried about my other 840 as it has the next serial number to my dead one and has been ran the same amount of time.

If you have had 3 SSD's die on you in 2 years then you're either extremely unlucky or doing something wrong.

My dad and brother's Evo 840 both haven't died after 1 1/2 years of moderate usage.

 Where you doing anything crazy?

I tend to hammer my 840 EVO, and it's still going fine. And I haven't had a hard drive die under normal circumstances.

Nothing crazy, I've got a Corsair Force 3 that get's hammered all day and still runs like the day I bought it. Maybe I've just got some bad luck. Or maybe RAID 0 does crazy writes just just one of the drives before it spreads it over the two?

I'm sorry for your loss.

 

I'm still running a Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme.  I hope that doesn't die anytime soon.

Are you running them in a RAID? If so, you're killing them. This is why a ssd RAID is so unrecommended. There are things that need to be done to keep the health of a ssd up and a RAID prevents that. On top of that the Magician software goes even further and that's been stymied as well. To put the icing on the pile of crap, the so called advantage of RAID is less than what is achieved through the Magician software.
