if you bought a legit copy, then its not worth the fight with microsft just crack it.

First try re entering the key. If that doesn't work, then you can either reinstall the OS or call Microshaft support. If/when that works, you can either enjoy your genuine Windows, or start downloading a tool that will make it genuine(Yeah I know I'm not supposed to recomend it on these forums, but Microsoft makes it so hard to get a legit copy).

Did you deactivate windows on your old system and then re-enter it after you got the new motherboard?

Simply give them a call and use phone activation.  There's nothing wrong with what you've done.  Simply tell them what happened with the RMA'd motherboard and they will issue a phone code for activation.

Call 'em up, through the number on the activation window, if you have a legit copy. It's an automated process, if all goes well, you won't have to even speak to anybody.

If it's OEM, they might say you've reached the maximum number of activation, in which case talking to somebody will fix it. (Generally it's " 0 " to be transferred to someone.. not sure if Microsoft use the same system.. I do know that the machine ask you if you want to somebody if it can't understand what you're saying... or if you just shout a bunch of profanity.)
