512GB SSD or GTX 980? - Decisions Decisions

Geekazoid

lol

However, have you considered getting a 5820K, X99 and 16GB ddr4 instead of the 4790K? That would make a difference, not a 980 vs 970

If an X99 platform+970+512GB SSD+some TB of HDD storage fit you budget, that would be the best option ( but I'm not considering used stuff )

Yes, I have considered that, but I'm not sure if it's really worth it TBH.

Unless you make some money from your editing. If it is ONLY a hobby and no money comes, get the 4790k, 16gb ram, 970, ssd, some hdd's, and a good keyboard/mouse/monitor.

4 threads more are much better than a slightly faster GPU... lol

Don't even worry about the 980, the 970 will be fine.

Yeah, this is what I figured. I've already got a decent keyboard, the Logitech K800. :)

Hmm, I don't know. I'm not doing this professionally so I'm thinking that the i7 4790K should suffice.

Okay, just something to note guys is that it'd be cheaper for me to get a GTX 980 then another GTX 970. ;)

How so?

K95 rgb mx blue FTW!

Yeah, well I'm not gaming and so I don't really need a gaming keyboard, plus I only bought the K800 this year, it wasn't cheap.

Hi guys,

As you can probably guess from the title I'm trying to decide one over the other. I currently have a 256GB SSD selected for my build (+ 2TB HDD for mass storage) and a GTX 970. But with my budget I can either go for a 512GB SSD or a GTX 980 GPU. This is for a planned build next year. I don't have any parts.

Usage: Video Editing

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Well, I did think about those, but you do get 32GB less storage with one of those compared to other 512GB SSDs.

A 980 will still be more than a 970.

but also faster than most ssd's. Rated speed is pretty much a lie you can't go by and it's also intel so it's reliable as hell.

He is planing the build. He does not have a 970.

Exactly! I really don't get where people are getting the idea that I already have a GTX 970. I don't believe that I even hinted at that in any way. *scratches head*
