For my English class I have to recite a Medieval poem... In a Scottish accent

Firearm2112

So for my English class I have to recite a poem in a Scottish accent. Being american I have no idea how to do this. Any tips on how to portray a believable scottish accent?

As a non-american student, no offense or anything, but it seems kind of stupid IMO that you have to recite a poem with a scottish accent. Unless the scottish accent is necessary in order to understand the poem (I can't imagine what that would be like) it'll have no point.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

Are you being marked on accuracy of accent? I would think that it isn't part of the mark.

That sounds like the stupidest English assignment I ever heard of.

If it was an acting assignment, maybe that'd be okay.

O yoong lochinvar is come it ay th' west,

throogh aw th' wide border his steed was th' best;

ain sae his guid broadsword he weapons hud nane,

he rode aw unarm’d, an' he rode aw aloyn.

so faithful in loove, an' sae dauntless in war,

thaur ne'er was knecht loch th' yoong lochinvar.

he staid nae fur brake, an' he stopp’d nae fur staine,

he swam th' eske river whaur ford thaur was none;

but aur he alighted at netherby gate,

the bride hud consented, th' gallant cam late:

fur a laggard in loove, an' a dastard in war,

was tae wed th' fair ellen ay brae lochinvar.

so boldly he enter’d th' netherby close,

amang bride’s-men, an' kinsmen, an' brothers an' all:

then spoke th' bride’s faither, his hain oan his sword,

(fur th' puir craven bridegroom said ne'er a wuid,)

“o come ye in peace haur, ur come ye in war,

ur tae jink at uir bridal, yoong laird lochinvar?”

“i lang woo’d yer dochter, mah suit ye denied;—

love swells loch th' solway, but ebbs loch its tide—

ain noo Ah am come, wi' thes tint loove ay mine,

tae leid but a body measure, bevvy a body cuppae bucky.

thaur ur maidens in scootlund mair brammer by far,

that woods gladly be bride tae th' yoong lochinvar.”

the bride kiss’d th' goblet: th' knecht took it up,

he quaff’d aff th' bucky, an' he threw doon th' cup.

she look’d doon tae blush, an' she look’d up tae sigh,

with a smile oan 'er lips an' a tear in 'er yak.

he took 'er soft hain, aur 'er mammy coods bar,—

“naw treid we a measure!” said yoong lochinvar.

so stately his f'rm, an' sae brammer 'er coopon,

that ne'er a close sic' a galliard did grace;

while 'er mammy did frit, an' 'er faither did fume,

ain th' bridegroom stuid danglin' his bonnit an' plume;

ain th' bride-maidens whisper’d, “’twaur better by far

tae hae match’d uir fair coosin wi' yoong lochinvar.”

ain tooch tae 'er hain, an' a body wuid in 'er lug,

when they reach’d th' hall-duir, an' th' charger stuid near;

so lecht tae th' croope th' fair quine he swung,

so lecht tae th' saddle afair 'er he sprung!

“she is won! we ur gain, ower benk, bush, an' scaur;

they’ll hae fleit steeds 'at follaw,” quoth yoong lochinvar.

thaur was moontin' ’mang graemes ay th' netherby clan;

forsters, fenwicks, an' musgraves, they rode an' they ran:

thaur was racin' an' chasin' oan cannobie lee,

but th' tint bride ay netherby ne’er did they see.

so darin' in loove, an' sae dauntless in war,

hae ye e’er heard ay gallant loch yoong lochinvar?
