970 g1

It can overclock to similar performance of a 290x, runs cooler, and will run on a lower wattage psu.

If you're in the US, I'd consider an MSI Lightning R9 290x though as it's very cheap right now (although it is a power whore).

Which one is better? G1/msi/asus 970 vs asus r9 290x or matrix 290x

Will do sli or crossfire in the future. But damn that matrix plate is sexy

I'd go with the 970, cooler, same performance (especially if oc'd a bit) and much lower power consumption... The Gigabyte is the best imho, as the Vapor-X is the best 290x

Keep in mind you can overclock the 970 to stock 980 performance levels, so just imagine that the 980 in this benchmark is the performance you will get when you overclock your 970.

Well i believe SLI is better done than Crossfire, and that also 290x is hotter, you also have MFAA which is a new anti aliasing that gives a better look with no performance loss

I'm sorry.. But that is this exactly? What better look?

MFAA looks like MSAA but has about 30% more performance.

As I recall, it wasn't that much better, and it varied quite a lot.

I would get the G1 970 for all of the reasons listed above, and for the fact that I have experience with it.

the 290x  Lightning is the best 290x, not the vapor-x.

@OP  the only 290x I'd recommend getting over a 970 would be the lightning 290x, as it's very quiet & cool, and overclocks like a beast and will probably pull away at 1440p/4k.

Msi lightning 290x at $300 is a steal, go for it.

I know I've seen them talking about MFAA in one of the videos -- it might have been a benchmarking video, but I can't seem to find it :/
