prime95 on i7 , way too hot for my cpu?

Go to solution Solved by vlkn´,

that right , he is pissed i got gtx 970 g1 with i7 4790k and he has i5 4690k with r9 280x.

so i dont need to run the prime and my temp are alright ? i get max 67 c playing ac unity on ultra + msaa 4x

No, you won´t ever need to run prime95 if you use this cpu @stock speed (no overclock)

Edit: Temps are fine.

i build my first pc a week ago, i have i7 4790k + evo 212 with asus z97a,  i am always woorid about the thermal paste and cooler that did i set t right.

today my friend told me to run the prime95 to cheak temp, i run prime95 and temp went up to 80c  and after 20 seconds i close the prime95

1) what is the max normal temp for i7 4790k

2) does teh 80c that i got is normal

3) my friend told me that you need to run prime95 for 24 hours to check problems , do i really need to run it ! what are the benifits ?

if i run it for 24 hours , will it not fry my cpu

1) max "normal" temps are 80

2) 80°C is good for prime95, but it´ll go a little higher the next minutes.

3)Don´t do it

I personally wouldn't run it for 24 hours, as that's pretty hard on your chip. I ran it for about 15-20 minutes. Intel specs say 72 should be the max. Are you overclocking at all?

If your CPU is only getting to 80c then your CPU will not fry.

I would only get worried if it starts to hit 90c and above with Prime95 running, if it does then stop it immediately and back down the overclock.

I've never run Prime95 for a full 24 hours since I'm lazy and have never had stability problems on any game/application.

Prime95 can damage your cpu, so don't run it.

For Haswell CPU's at least.

Use Aida64 instead, OP.

TjCase is 72 which is difference to TJMax. Keep it around 80 or lower in prime95 and you're fine

Turn off adaptive voltage and any other voltage stuff going to your CPU before running Prime95 or it can cause problems.

what "friend" tells you to use prime95 testing your cpu for no reason

This is mostly used as a stability test for overclocks.

He must be really pissed off, of your new system

Do NOT use prime95 with your haswell CPU you can damage it...use intel extreme utility.
