Hi Guys

So this is my first build, and its mostly going to be a gaming/and maybe a streaming/editing pc down the line...

But i cant decide on my cpu: Intel or amd

So my choices is either

Intel i5 quad core 4460 3.2ghz with an Asus Z78 ATX Motherboard

Or

AMD Fx 8320 8 core with 3.5ghz with a ASRock 970 Extreme3 r2.0 mother board

What should i chose, as they are both the same price.

Thanks in advance

p.s other specs: 8gb Ram, Evga 750 ti 2gb graphics card, 500w power supply.

i5 all the way. I love my amd processor, but the socket is outdated and the i5 will perform better.

If I had a dollar for every time someone made the same exact post...

Since it's mainly for gaming, get the i5 4460. It beats the 8320 in every game except Dragon Age Inquisition.

Down the line if you really find yourself professionally (doing it for money) video editing, you can upgrade to a 4790k, which will destroy an 8320.

For recording you can use Shadowplay for Nvidia GPU, AMD GVR for AMD GPU, or QuickSync if you like neither.

For streaming you can use QuickSync with OBS for nearly zero performance loss, or just use x264; ~3k bitrate isn't very taxing.

wow I said that completely wrong. I meant to say love, I have no idea why you despise your amd processor so much

You should know why we dislike AMD's current desktop architecture ... We've been burned.

32nm? Much better than what I am dealing with.

Difference is, 32nm is the latest desktop AMD architecture. Intel on the other hand, are much further ahead in that respect.

If you do decide AMD, I advise HIGHLY against that ASRock board. I had the Pro4 with a terrible experience all around.

I would recommend the i5 anyway.

Boards to choose from

GA-970A-UD3P

M5A97 R2.0

M5A99FX Pro/Evo R2.0

GA-990FXA-UD3/5/7

Crosshair V Formula Z

Sabertooth 990FX

Thanks for the advice guys, (was leaning to intel anyway) But can someone clarify (i know im a noob) why Amd with 4 more cores and the higher clock speed is worse the the i5?

Games don't usually don't benefit from more cores, they rather like fewer faster cores. Haswell is the most refined CPU architecture by Intel, optimized a lot of stuff with a lot more CPU power per watt than the quite old AMD chips. Clock speed isn't everything, there are a lot of other factors at play, which in turn define how fast and efficient a processor really is.
