downloading games is based off the bandwidth you have from your ISP plan. I would recommend a lower capacity SSD for your OS and crucial applications and a HDD for games, Is loading times really that important? Also, what is your budget for a SSD+HDD solution.

you could run a few games on your os drive if you wanted if your internet is fast enough you could just download w/e game you are playing atm and then swtich

Afaik ssd's "only" improves your load times" not the fps ... how ever sometimes the load times goes form up to 1 min down to 15 sec

so if you have the money its nice or you could get a sshd tho its never as fast as the real thing

I don't think you download is limited by your hard disk

that said i love the load times on my ssd's atm im only used ssd's and then I have a extern hd hooked up to the network so music serie etc are being streamed

but you could only have one or 2 games running on your os drive for faster load unless your are playing 10 or more games

afaik it only help with the load times etc... and not the fps

That's why I was thinking about only having the OS on the 128gb and getting another ssd for my games only

Well I haven't build my computer yet but I have a 128gb Samsung 840 pro for the OS but was thinking about getting another ssd just for games and a 1tb HDD for all my videos

Get a HDD for the games It is as simple as that and the WD black HDD`s gives me a quite fast loadtime so dont worry about that

I would say no. Definatley not. I have used 61GB's of a 1TB HDD for games. This drive has only got these games installed on it at the moment due to a rebuild:
ARMA 2
ARMA 2; British Armed Forces
ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead
Left 4 Dead 2
Saints Row: The Third

And Kerbal Space Program, Zineth, Monster Hunter Tri (wii Emulated) and Mercenaries (PS2 emulated)

If this were on an SSD I would be uninstalling and re-installing games way to frequently. And then the cost for that amount of space on SSD's. So not worth it at all.

You probably wont see any differnce in load times for your games, I think Linus and Slick talked about this before where they said all the games data is stored in the RAM for loading so you would be better to get faster RAM. I personally use an SSD for OS boot time and essential programs.

Signature a little big don't you think?

Anyways, a 120GB Is only enough for your OS and only a few large games. Can't you compromise and get both a 120GB SSD and a 500GB Western Digital Black? If I had to pick, it would be a HDD because 120GB is simply not large enough.

You can pick up older, bigger SATA II SSDs which are still faster than HDDs for pretty cheap nowadays. If you're in Britain, OverclockersUK had an offer on a 480GB vertex 2E going for £150 the other day for example, so I expect there are similar offers elsewhere. Those SSDs won't be as fast as a modern SATA III one, but they'll still be faster than a HDD :)

If you are playing games with large maps/amount of data to load, yes, sure, the difference in loading BF3 between an Intel 330 and a WD 1.5 tb caviar black is HUUUUUGE. I load it in aprox 5-10s, the caviar take 2-3 mins.

They're all pretty equal now, it really doesn't matter that much. I have an Intel 330 in my desktop, a samsung 820 in my laptop, a mate has a Sandisk SSD, and another mate has a Samsung 840 pro. They all perform identically.

Yeah, just get something big capacity, because at 240 gb, they all are the same in terms of speed, which is what you need, because you don't use it as an OS drive.

another solution get 2 SSD's and a 1TB+ HDD. I use a 128GB Samsung 840Pro for my OS and a 3TB HDD for games/applications. Though if I was using something that was heavy on read/writes like Adobe AfterEffects/Premiere I'd get another SSD for that (500GB size); but, thats if you have the cash for it.

No.

It's not worth getting an SSD for games, with the price of a 256 SSD, it would be better to get the equivalent HDD, and use it only for games, install steam onto the HDD and you'll have no problems with boot times or anything.

The performance impact of an SSD in games just isn't worth it. Sure, you get faster map loading times, but you still have to wait for everyone else to load anyway.

Why not buy a tiny SSD and a HDD for the games?, using the tiny spare SSD to cache the HDD ?
