60hz vs 120hz

TBNRunity

So I generally play games on my computer and I am using a 144hz monitor but i am thinking of switching to an ips panel. What I want to know is how much of a difference will there be in games. I know 144hz will be smoother

This is kind of a concise but pretty bad (IMO) answer. Just because IPS has better colors but lower refresh rates that does not mean it's not worth going IPS when gaming.

In short:

Do you want to keep the smoothness you have now? Stay with the TN 144Hz

Do you want much better colors and don't mind 60Hz? Go with an IPS panel

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

I have not really gamed much on a 60hz panel so I don't know what i am losing. I believe my laptop had a 60hz screen and I am fine gaming on that.

Laptops always have 60Hz as far as I know (There could be a few exceptions though).

It's up to you. If you want fantastic colors/viewing angles and no distortion at all then get IPS however the smoothness of 144Hz can also be quite good. It's something you have to decide for yourself

144hz is SOOOOOOOO much better than a 60hz for gaming and for the windows "smoothness" experience. I am getting my 144hz on thursday or friday...can't wait :D

For video and photo editing, IPS / PLS / IGZO is better.

Y'know, it's hard to believe this when you just said you're only getting one now, I'm sure they're awesome, but just because you have bought one, doesn't mean it's "SOOOOOOOOO" much better than 60hz, especially since you're only getting one now, unless you already had 144hz monitor, just little of your bias there ;)

so how do you find it? It looks quite nice, but 24 inch is just too small for my set up. :( I wish I could since they're pretty damn good price
