It still leaves marks but I've never seen damage worse than a bit of scratching.

Coolabratory Liquid Ultra, it's expensive, and can be hard to find depending on where you live. But there is nothing that beats it.

Higher is better right???

Well, thank you for that chart.  I'm kind of a celsius freak and seeing that there is a better thermal paste to the MX-4.. I now know what I must buy in bulk >_>

Just make sure you get Ultra and not Pro. Pro is pretty much non-removable. Ultra performs more or less the same, but is removable. Also... it is conductive... so be careful applying it, and you have to pre-spread it with a brush too.

Really?  Pre-spread, huh?  That means being -really- meticulous, but that's fine if it offers better performance.  ^^  Thank you kindly.  So, probably a grain of rice amount and then spread it all around with a tiny brush.  *Nod*

The tests by which they get these temperatures are very subjective and look at the difference in temps. Its REALLY not worth the effort any money changing the thermal paste for a 2'c difference. considering that for you it might not even cause any change in temps.

Also don't spread thermal comp, especially with a brush, firstly the bristles might come off the bush which will be a pain picking them out the thermal comp.

secondly, spreading the paste causes small air bubbles in the compound which can affect temps (not by much, but it can).

Basically, don't spread the compound yourself, its unnecessary and daft.

This is true for most thermal compound, but we weren't talking about most thermal compound. We were talking about Coolabratory Liquid Metal Ultra specifically. It is standard procedure suggested by the manufacturer to pre-spread this TIM because it will not spread out properly under pressure from a heat sink as it has a much higher viscosity than most TIMs. It is literally a metal alloy that is liquid at room temperature, it doesn't spread easily.

I use CG-extreme. They sell it in a ten gram container for $30. The container looks like something lip balm would come in. I just hope no one mistakes it for lop balm.. lol

Its good because I was tired of always having to order thermal compound when those little syringes run out. Ten grams lasts awhile.

If I'm not mistaken Coolabratory is also corrosive, meaning it will eat away at the metal IHS on the CPU.
