It's PLS which is a subset of IPS.

I have read that they are very similar (PLS and IPS), is that true? Is IPS still better?

Some would argue that PLS is better, but they're pretty much the same. If you would like to see a comparison just search YouTube for...

PLS vs IPS

Then you should be able to find a comparison and see for yourself.

To make it a tad more confusing BenQ have developed their own IPS technology called Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle or AHVA, not to be confused with AMVA or Advanced Multi-domain Vertical Alignment. I hope I don't make you confused, haha.

Basically, he's saying each company has their own "IPS" panels. IPS belongs to LG, PLS are made by Samsung, and BenQ makes the AHVA panels. They're all IPS technology.
