Say get a AMD CPU and pair it with a high end GPU? I'm not hating on AMD, i use one as my HTPC nowadays.

Remember a wise man once said, "You'll most likely hear/see more bad reviews from products than good, because if they get a good product, they won't bother to write a review, and if they got a bad product, they'll complain about the product" ~ SoftenButterCream

Because it's cheaper and for gaming the GPU makes more of a difference.

Value and performance is much better for gaming when you can throw most of the budget at the graphics card. AMD also has killer pricing lately.

That is true, but the guys over here always say avoid AMD which is why some new forum people are always struggling to choose what to go with.

You wouldn't want a 4790K and a GT 610 ?  ;)

I'd say go Intel if it's in the budget and you can still get a good GPU, but go AMD to get a decent CPU and a good GPU. If that made any sense.

Leave it to a guy that built a $1200 build and put in a 8320, he lost all credibility after that.

very few people on these forums have used multiple performance tiers and brands of hardware for each generation cycle. the vast majority probably buy a new cpu or gpu once ever few years, and only have experience with that specific piece of hardware. the rest is just people repeating what they see/hear others saying, true or false it doesn't matter... as long as it confirms their bias they will repeat it.

That's silly. Intel and AMD both have great options and the better one will often vary with pricing and availability.

I'll say this straight up, until the core 2 duo came out my first choice has always been AMD cpus because:

1. the AMD 386 DK-40 when it came out was cheap, reliable, fast and capable of beating all intel 486's until the 486 66MHz was released

2. Intel is know for shoddy business practices such as the slot 1 celerons (got both versions, and they were slow as hell)

3. I still have my 386-DK40 and K6-2 working perfectly after all of the years of constant use.

4. For games I found that the performance per core of my core 2 duo (e8500-still able to play loads of newer games on it) is lower than that of the newer AMD cpus, which have more cores and therefore run better

5. Intel is known to hype their products a lot, and charge through the nose for them

6. Better price-performance ratio with AMD

Not me personally, but people probably have bought stuff solely off of his recommendations.

I wouldn't want to build an AMD rig right now using the AM3+ platform, but that's just me.
