Not sure. I'd need to know more about the technical side of this to comment.

a motherboard with a gpu socket

and a cpu takes place of the gpu(pci).

CPUs and GPUs have different architectures. They're built differently and dont process the same way. It just plain wouldn't work. CPUs CAN have integrated graphics, but these are separate pieces inside the CPU

To everyone else, why would you mock this question? it's legitimate (i'm pretty sure) and no one deserved to be mocked because of ignorance, unless it is self-imposed ignorance

Would have problems with cpu because

a) not enough pins, hence innefficient

B) the land grid array ensures constant and best contact with processor pins

^wow! that's what happens when I try to add b in a list. lol

I think you are not getting something

The CPU is a processor

GPU is a Processor

They just have different roles ( and some difference in architecture but because of the roles)

CPU= Central Processing Unit= Main component that controls basically everything.

GPU=Graphical Processing Unit= a Co processor that helps the CPU with the graphical computing. The graphics cards itself is a small PC basically (put it into simple terms) with its own Motherboard, RAM, VRM, Processor and so on, that needs a CPU to give it work.

GPUs don't have all the northbridge functionality built in to start.

CPU would be further away from RAM etc...

And motherboards would be much expensive... what if people want to use integrated graphics?

I'm not sure what the op meant, but I think it would be kind of interesting to have the GPU located somewhere in the case where a CPU-sized cooler could be mounted on it easily. After all, modern GPUs output a lot more heat than CPUs when strained, yet the larger CPU heatsinks are typically much larger than the GPU ones and have direct access to large 120mm exhaust
