Hi guys,

I have a Dell XPS 12 with Windows 8 and it's been running pretty smooth for over a year, but today a strange issue appeared. I can't access any of the files (I can open folders though, but not the files in folders), can't open any browser, can't run setup or games. When I try to run games or setup it appears for 1 second but then it goes to the taskbar and it keeps doing it every time I press the icon. When trying to open files or browser just nothing happens. However I can access my computer, control panel and, as I mentioned, folders also. What could be the issue and potential solution?

It's extremly important to solve the problem as soon as possible as I need the word files for exams that I have this weekend, so I would be very grateful if you could help me with this.

This should probably be posted over in the "Troubleshooting" section.

Try to boot into Safe Mode and see if the issues still persist.

Also, do you have Norton installed? I've seen it at least 10 different times where Norton prevents explorer.exe from functioning. After running Norton Removal Tool (which removes all traces of Norton software) it works again.

Someone has malware on their computer.

When the task manager doesn't work, and programs closes immediately as they startup, this is when you know that something is auto-closing everything.

Format and re-install Windows. If you have a second computer, plug the laptop drive into that system, and run virus scan and malwarebytes on it. Once done, and you scanned again, and all is now good, now you can backup your data, and take the HDD back to the laptop to re-install Windows.
