Broken pins on gigabyte motherboard

lil barack

Recently bought a GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

I put in my old i7 processor since it said it was compatible and it didn't fit, I took it out and figured I would have to return it, I posted a RMA to return the motherboard but after I submit it, I put everything together and noticed some bent pins. I never locked the i7 in place so there wasn't much pressure on it besides the weight of the processor and some minor pressure. I really love the motherboard and I am currently unsure if it will work since I don't have the a fitting processor and I don't want to risk something bad happening due to the bent pins. What should I do?

would it really matter? look how the pins are bent. it looks like somthing hit it, screwdriver maybe? intel cpus are flat so how would it bend only those pins?

To me it does. I want to know if he's even using a cpu that has 1150 contacts.

Its a LGA1150 socket so the last gen CPU isnt compatible

3770 is Ivy Bridge (1155)

So should I wait and see if the i5 works

I wouldn't count on it working; the cpu socket area is extremely delicate.

No offense to the OP, but if he couldn't match the correct cpu to the corresponding socket, then I wouldn't suggest trying to fix the bent pins of a socket.

The i7 3770 is a lga 1155 chip, while your board has a lga 1150 socket. You just ruined that board my friend..... lga 1155 does not fit on lga 1150.

WTF man if he tried to put flat surface (intel cpu) on that socket it really doesn't matter how many pins it has it wouldn't bent those pins on mobo.

Why you people think that he ruined it. Maybe they were bent earlier and he just tried to fit it and it couldn't.

That's why I took it off, didn't fit when I attempted to properly placed it.

So that doesn't mean that you ruined pins. Just try to report it as DOA.

Only problem is that I'm not lying about the RMA I made before seeing the pins... how do you cancel an RMA on newegg?

So much 'maybe' in your answer. Motherboards don't get through the consumer test with bend pins. It could not have happend while shipping because of the protective cover on the socket. And then he tried to fit a cpu in with a different architecture into the wrong socket.

I think it is easy to say that HE ruined it, unless he had proof of bend pins BEFORE inserting an lga 1155 cpu in lga 1150 socket.

When this happens, there is a small chance (0,1%) that he can RMA it.

And yes, he could try to bend the pins back, But if it looks ok while it is not then he will fry his i5 too.

If you really didn´t use any force at all, theres no chance that the pins bend because of the cpu weight.

Most companies do have quality controll, but maybe they missed it, or it is a repaired mainboard sold as new.

If you decide not to send it back, sell it on ebay and get a new mainboard.

if the pin is wrong bend it can break or destroy your cpu.
