So i'm having trouble explaining myself as a "computer lover" or whiz. or anything like that, I haven't had (job wise) a computer support job before, but I dont want them to think nope not needed, or anyone with a couple of years more experience is better than me. How can I put this across. How can I define myself?

-- Personal profile! Heres my dads example;

A highly motivated, adaptable and dynamic Support engineer with proven interpersonal skills gained in a variety of technical and management positions. I am computer literate with strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities. Broad based knowledge of Integrated Logistic Support used in liasing with sub-contractors and Military customers in a challenging environment

Software when it comes to the installing and sorting of software and anything like that I can sort it no problem. How can I put this across?

Wait, What?

 3 A-Levels?

More like 3 GCSEs

(Don't go into IT, if you have A-Levels, get a degree and do something productive with your life - I did 4 weeks of work experience in IT and it wasn't the best, put it that way)

Go through the job specification/advertisment and write a cover letter explaining how you meet all of their requirements. Your CV should just really include relevant education, skills, and experience.

Equivalents; sorry. Level 3 National Diploma, in IT and computing. If I could do IT 3 times at GCSE I might of actually had a decently fat GCSE list ._.

Personal profile is made to grip them straight away, Its an internal vacancy ( no cover-letters needed, going to keep it simple) But I really do want to grip them and try put across my technical skills. I just don't want to word it badly for this job.

Just write down what you can do, if you've built a rig, put it down. If you've solved a complex issue, put it down. If you're good at something, put it down,

On the personal profile? Or as a covering letter? As im not including that as its an internal vacancy, not wanted. Don't want to push it or bore them with too much bullshit you know?

I'm good at it as well, but that doesn't mean I won't find it mind numbingly boring though.

You go in there and it's the same old stuff every time. At least if you have more formal qualifications, you'll go up the ranks quicker.

So, you've been in a support staff job, if you were an employer yourself, what would you look for?

Include one anyway.

Incorrect.

No degree is requried for IT based jobs. if you have the chance to go into a good IT based job straight out of college/sixth form you will be far ahead of those that spent 3 years at university.

Thanks for taking it seriously, so you think I should try add pictures to my covering letter, also do you think this is applicable for a personal profile so far?

Personal Profile:

A highly motivated, adaptable and dynamic computer enthusiast, with proven skills gained from a variety of builds including many desktops for myself and others, laptops and helping with a micro-server, I'm computer literate and also have strong interpersonal skills gained by 3 years of working with others in retail even under challenging circumstances. Strong knowledge within hardware based computing, often the go-to guy when someone needs help with their computer.

In terms of going up a career path, it's always easier with a degree from what I hear

Besides, if you have a degree, you are keeping your options open for future careers of your liking

  1. I did my work experience in the NHS and did this kind of thing, not too interesting, but idk, may just be the public sector
  2. And someone with a good covering letter is always preferable - someone with good English skills

Thanks, hey! A jobs a job. Well paid, stable and I'm good enough for it. Maybe I'll choose a different career path someday. But for now its all I'm good enough to get. As they say, thats life.
