One more Asus WS socket 2011-3 board, this time with remote management

 


The IPMI 2.0-compliant ASMB8-iKVM module enables remote BIOS updates, standalone KVM/Java utility, video recording and BSOD capture. With out-of-band management ASMB8-iKVM provides round-the-clock remote monitoring and diagnosis even if the server operating system is down or offline, and all through a user-friendly web-based graphical interface that works with all major browsers. In addition, ASWM Enterprise software provides one-to-multiple centralized management including BIOS flash, software dispatch, task scheduler, remote control and power control, via colorful and informative graphical interface.

Looks quite aesthetically pleasing to me. B)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Even the power connector are in the wrong places. What is going on here. At first I thought they forgot some power connectors but, nope!

That PCIe layout pisses me off. But the rest is cool. All dem power connectors though!

 

That Aspeed chip should have been between the 1st and 2nd PCIe slot, not the 2nd and 3rd.

So rotating LGA sockets 90 degrees is the new trend for WS boards. The 24 pin + 2x 8 pin and the Eatx Power headers are in awkward locations.

It's not a new trend. The power connector might seem to be in a ackward position, but those who use this board for it's remote management, might not be using a standard enthusiast case. They'll probably be using a rackmount case, the PSU will be on the top right and by placing the power connector in that location, it's the shortest distance the PSU connector has to travel.

So rotating LGA sockets 90 degrees is the new trend for WS boards. The 24 pin + 2x 8 pin and the Eatx Power headers are in awkward locations.

This is how a VAST majority of server boards are, since you have limited vertical space for airflow, and its better, even in a high ariflow scenario ;)

I like this board, I think it looks cool because it's something different that I haven't seen that often.

I have one dell and one supermicro server. None of them have the LGA socket rotated 90 degrees, and the RAM placement. Both of them use redundant PSUs, but that is not where the 24 Pin is located, although it may be to an special configuration with the 2U chassis they both have.

is it still ATX?  it looks more "squareish"
