Title says most, I am planning a new build for mainly gaming, And SOME content creation, I will keep this rig for a while, So should I spend $450 AUD extra to swap out my 4790k, Vengeance Pro 1866 CL9 DDR3, Asus Z97-Pro (WiFi), With the 5820k, Vengeance LPX 2400 CL14 DDR4 and Asus X99-Pro.

Is X99 worth $500 AUD extra? Or should I stick with Z97

This will be my first build and I want it too last.

EDIT: GPU will be the GTX 970 STRIX, I can provide more info if needed, just ask. It's more like $500 ish extra

Thanks!

No.

$450 for for more threads is a waste of money unless you are rich, or you do content creation as a job.

Spend that money on something that will actually benefit you like a second graphics card, or just save it for future upgrades.

Depends on what you are doing, if it's gaming not even close. A 4790k will steam roll any game. An i5 will do a damn close job as well but I find it bottlenecked me a tiiiiiny bit in crysis 3 and recently with BF4's newest updates. By the time games need 8 cores that powerful it will be standard and much cheaper. Especially with dx12 coming.

Hmm, Thanks that helps me decide, I'll go the Z97 route, I've looked up some benchmarks in games and stuff, the 4790k performs better than the 5820k due to it's higher clock speed, and in content creation the 5820k is only slightly better.

just get yourself a 4790k no doubt, if you want to save money the 4690k isn't a bad option either. Literally the only games my old 4670k were bottlenecking me in was the recent version of bf4 and crysis 3. And I don't sit around playing those all day. Maybe it helped AC unity as well but I still don't want to play that shit regardless lol. I moved to the (i7 because I got it for free)

If time is money yes you will benefit from the extra cores... If you are not earning money from yr content creation then i would put that money into a graphics card as that will benefit alot more than an extra 2 cores... Unless you are looking at an X series which is a 1200 cpu anyway..
