Ok, first battle with Letho. I cannot, for the life of me, defeat this guy!!! It's frustrating me to no end!!

I've tried google searching for strategies and watching youtube tutorials, and I've tried these strategies, but it just doesn't work. 2 hours of trying and the best I can do is get him down to maybe 80% health.

Those of you who have done this, what strategy did you use? And other tips, hints or tricks?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

no0b, I kept using that icy looking stun magic on him, right after I dodged his attack.

That gives a window to attack him in his back. The main thing is not to get too greedy, just have 1 or 2 swings then retreat and dodge his attack again, if you try getting lots of hits on him it will probably backfire.

It takes patience, timing and some luck.

Bombs, throwables and signs really helps :)

Edit - And movement, lots of movement

What do you guys mean by "signs"?

I've been using the strategy to dodge, keep my distance and stun him with Aard, then attack but only 2 hits max and jump back, but eventually he lands a hit here and there and I'm done. I just can't seem to hold out from being hit for long enough. If I wait too long to use Aard or attack him, he puts up his quen shield. If I attack when I think it's safe, he ends up hitting me back with something before I can finish casting my spell.

I guess I'll just keep trying. Just super annoying when you've already spent a lot of time on it and haven't made much progress... <_<

First of all : I feel your pain. It has been a while since I played the game now, but I distinctly remember thinking at the time that this must be one of the hardest Bossfights ever because he can, quite literally, do everything that you can do but better. On my first playthrough I finally gave up at some point and changed the difficulty level to "easy". I can not really say that I recommend this since he simply stops blocking anything and you can click him to death. Not very satisfactory.

However, when I replayed the Game because the Enhanced Edition had come out, I managed to defeat him on "Dark". The only strategy I found that even brought me close to beating him was, quite simply: Yrden. Yrden all the way.

Put the sign somewhere on the floor, and then dodge-the-fuck-away from everything he does. When he stops into it, you can get in, hit him once (twice if you are lucky) and then get away again pretty safely. Repeat.

It takes a long long time, but it works - and it is the only way I found where you can keep enough distance between you and him so that he cannot easily surprise you with his own signs. Just as everybody else has said: Dodging a lot is the absolut key to this fight

I tried Yrden but it only works maybe 25% of the time. He often just walks through it and maybe stumbles a little. if I get lucky, it holds him for a while. When it doesn't work and he stumbles, I try to hit him but he blocks. It's also tricky to put down because it takes a few seconds and he usually hits me with his Aard, then lobs a bomb or poison on me.  <_<

I think I have it on "normal" difficulty, but if I still can't beat him after a few more tries, I may just have to change it. One can only try so many times... :P

Well, I tried and tried and tried some more. The best tactic I found was to keep using Yrden, that is, when it actually works. More often than not, the dude just walked right through them with almost no effect. Best I could do was get him down to maybe 75%.

Ended up having to change the difficulty, just for this fight. Call me a nOOb or whatever, I don't care. :P  I love Dark Souls 1 and 2, so I'm no stranger to games with a challenge, but this was getting ridiculous. I just wanted to get on with it. lol.

It took some time, but I did it in the end. Played on Dark difficulty. Just learn the fight and have patience

The thing is; how many hours is reasonable to spend on one boss fight in a game? I don't have a lot of time to game and was fortunate to have some time to play this past weekend, so it really wore my patience thin after spending a good chunk of that valuable time on one fight... ;)

Maybe just lower the difficulty. It's been awhile since I beat it, but I don't recall anything too difficult.

I did a quick search and there are a few youtube videos with people fighting him. Try to watch those and  learn from what they do.

As mentioned in my previous posts, I searched for strategies and watched youtube tutorials, but when I tried those tactics, it never worked in my favour. Thus I ended up dropping it down to "easy". ;) I'll admit, on easy it was WAY too easy. It's a shame there's no middle ground there. I don't really care at this point though. 3 hours of trying one boss fight is enough for me. No single battle in any of the Dark Souls games gave me this much trouble.

Use ARTH strike 2 times use ARTH strike 2 times ... repeat until you kill him. I came up with this strategy after he killed me for milionth time. If he pops up shield dodge untill it ends then ARTH strike 2 times!

You mean "Aard"? ;) Yes, I tried that but even hitting him with it when his shield (Quen) was down, it did no damage to him - only knocked him back, allowing me to get 1-2 hits in. That strategy I could only keep going for so long as he always ended up getting me with something at some point.

Anyways, it's done. I beat him, albeit on easy, but at least I can get on with the rest of the games now, finally! :P

Thanks.

Letho was pretty challenging tbh in what is fairly early game.

It took me ages on the normal difficulty setting using Aard and getting a few swings in at him while his defence is down. Problem always was getting greedy - then when he deflects your swipe he can easily counter attack.

Hope you're enjoying W2 though - it's a great game :)

Yeah I tried to make sure I never attacked more than 2 hits at a time. Usually he would eventually hit me with fire while I was trying to avoid or cast a spell myself which takes a good chunk of your health down.

Very much enjoying the game! Can't wait for W3! :D

*Facepalm. You are right. It is Aard :D

Good job though ;) He never used other things on me because if you keep close to him long enough he wont switch to ranged attack. Just roll when he swing his sword.

Me neither :D

I plan to replay around Christmas time to freshen up on Witchering before the third game comes out :)

I had a similar experience with dragon age 2. It was either way too easy or way too hard. There didn't seem to be a middle ground.
