I really don't know. I think cool small dev companies would still be here. Such as ThatGameCompany.

Nothing would change. The concept of a mouse would still exist without Atari's help. (Xerox)

I honestly have no idea. Some people like ReviewTechUSA expect another crash to happen. I really really doubt that.

I'm waiting for the next crash to happen... If the shock didn't happen, the market would still be saturated with all the companies pushing out their own consoles and games...

Imagine having a choice of 6 consoles... all equally crappy... but with varying game libraries...

the crash only happened in north america , in japan and europe most people played on computers and not games consoles.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well Nintendo got into the games industry because they were failing. So my guess is things wouldn't be that different. In fact now things probably wouldn't be that different at all, the Jaguar would still likely fail and Atari would stop making consoles.

Nintendo wouldn't have been as successful in the US market which would have meant that they wouldn't have gotten as big as they did. The spillover could have meant that Sony may not have entered the game market at all given that "Playstation" was originally a joint Nintendo/Sony product. Although I'm sure that someone would have picked up the slack but I doubt it would have been identical. Who knows, a world without a video game crash could have meant that the industry never became "mainstream". Like them or not Nintendo and Sony are the two companies most responsible for gaming being as big as it is today.
